ACTUAL warranty feedback after mods? (tune, downpipe, intake, h/e)

Hi all,
does anyone have first hand ACTUAL warranty feedback from taking their car in for warranty work when they have mods on them? Specifically i'm looking for feedback on:
1. an ECU flash type tune...obv you would flash it back, to stock, but i'm aware that they may look at the flash counter...was this an issue?
2. Downpipes with a single Cat?
3. Heat exchanger?

I only ask about those 3 because i know that an exhaust and intake are usually ok, as are mild lowering springs, etc. I'm hoping for some first hand exp...not 2nd hand.

thanks
m

There has been a good number of these discussions as of late, as always ask that people use the search function.

But to answer your questions

1. Unless there is an issue and they suspect a tune they typically won't go looking for one, other dealerships/manufactures are far more strict.
we have a good number of people on the forum with tunes and haven't mentioned any issues with the dealerships as of yet.

2. Removing cats it typically frowned at most dealerships emission requirements not withstanding, as long as you have both they typically don't care
so going for high-flow is the better option here.

3. Heat Exchange I don't see them having an issue with but I've never had this particular mod done myself, however given the nature of the mod
I see no harm is asking the dealership.

Hey there, i've read and even started one or two of the past threads, but upon reviewing them i noticed that there was VERY little first hand experience. I found someone on the FB page that had an ECUtek tune, who got the ECM reprogramming letter, so he flashed it back to stock, took it in, they re-programed it and had no issues (that was good to hear).

I too have had experiences similar to what you stated, but i was hoping to hear from people who brought their car in for x propblem, have x mods done and their experiences.

Typically, dealerships don’t mind warranty work. It’s easier to make a living.

But, where they get leery is whether or not something will ping with corporate.

Here’s how it goes:

Car has fault
Dealership replaces under warranty
Customer pays nothing and goes home
Week later, corporate denies claim for whatever reason
Dealership now on hook for labor and parts

With mods, the dealership is in the position of having to prove the mod caused the failure. If they can’t, then, failure should be covered under warranty.

The hesitation is directly related to how paranoid they are about a claim being denied or possibly and audit.
