Cold air intake

Has anyone tested no filters? In my supercharged Maxima, on dyno or track days, I would take the filter off. Never did an A-B test, it was just for theoretical gains.
No... Also wouldn't recommend anyone do that the potential risks to the engine aren't worth it, the intake and air filters in modern cars are very well optimized you are talking maybe 3HP best case for dropping a filter.

I wouldn't suggest anyone regularly run around without filters (though I have a lot on my Maxima) but I think there is nothing wrong with losing the filters just for track or dyno days.

It seems exaggerated but did you see the video on youtube with the Mustang being dyno'd with air filters and then with a Filter Guard filter screen and the HP increased some ridiculous amount like 800 to 900HP? I would be curious to know what an honest HP gain would be without filters, especially on our cars.
You aren't making 100HP simply by taking off a filter, there are adjustments to the AFR and other factors that would need to take place.
In high powered applications restrictions can have a greater impact on total power but not very unlikely it would be to the degree you describe from the Youtube video.

Sound is so subjective. That's the difficulty with determining how well turbo spooling can be heard.
Hope this helps!

P.S. this is Sid, formerly of di_parts, under my personal account as the other no longer belongs to me. I'm with a Nissan dealer now, but, still have access to all Nismo stuff, including Infiniti.
Oh welcome back Sid!
