Backup sensors not working

Hey guys,

So I have noticed that for the past couple of days, actually since last Thursday lol my backup sensor doesn't beep.

Front sensors work fine, the emergency backup Collison system works just got the sensors. At first I thought maybe there is something blocking the sensors ice/snow but nada.

Anyone experienced this before?

I'm not in TO so can't take out to the dealer at the moment.

Mine used to beep perfectly. It would start from Green to yellow to red. They recently stopped working. So I know something is not right. I couldn't find any option in the intouch settings for the backup sensors, only front sensors

There is a spot in the menus that will turn on and off the BCI. Backup collision intervention. Did it get toggled by one of mysterious electronic spooks?

If it is on I guess you have a date with your dealer.

Well I can try to turn it off then on again but I think it is on since car breaks on its own if it detects movement behind the car when i can backing out?

Just an update:

As we know that the sensors itself were working fine since they could detect movement. This morning when I parked my car at work and as usual backed it up, I can now see the blinking lights on the back sensor and audio sound.

I have no clue what happened :S perhaps some ice built up? But you would think that this would effect the sensor completely!!

Mine is with the dealer at the moment getting looked it. Along with the radar cruise control. Will see if they can fix it. I am sure there is no ice build up on mine. And I have had rear park sensors on other vehicles, if there is ice buildup the sensors will usually start freaking out then turn themselves off.

Cruise control issue - It will work for 20-30 minutes, then it will say the sensor is blocked and stop working. After another 20-30 minutes it will remove all the warning lights on the dash and I can enable it again. The cycle will then repeat. Happened 3-4 times when I was driving on the highway over a weekend (6 hours of total driving). I finally said enough is enough and turned it off completly.

Devilzblood, if your car is "breaking" on its own, I'd ask the dealer to give you another one. I'd never want a car that was constantly breaking. Luckily for me, my sensors have always worked, and the car "brakes" on its own when necessary (it's happened twice since I got the car).

I'm not 100% sure about this but I believe the back up sensors and the backup brake intervention use two different sensors.

The sensors on the bumper give the distance control beeps. The backup and moving object detection use a radar sensor or something like that.

So your sensors may be the issue while the radar is still working.

Again, not 100% certain but it's probably worth checking into this as it seems there is an issue with the sensors located in the bumper.

Please let us know what you find out and good luck!

Edit: Owner's manual pg 5-49
The BCI system uses radar sensors *1 installed on both sides near the rear bumper to detect an approaching vehicle and sonar sensors *2 to detect objects in the rear.
Seems to support my theory of the radar system, which appears to be working for you vs. The bumper sensors which seem to be a different problem.

That would make sense.

So this morning sensors worked again.

I seem to notice that if there is snow overnight near the rear bumpers, the sensors don't work. All the snow was cleared yesterday so at night there was no snow near the rear bumper and sensors worked fine this morning.

No, if you mean the ignition is off also. If you place the ignition in the "On" position without starting the engine, BCI should still work, I think.

I sometimes get a warning when I change pavement colors. It's weird when I cross the CT river my sensors beep and my rears show up yellow on the dash. Only thing I can tell is the pavement change... nothing in the rear view... It's gremlins I tell ya!

Same here!! I was trying to figure that one out. My driveway is a very light colored concrete then it transitions to the road which is a dark grey macadam. My driveway is also a little steep so those sensors would be pointing down to the road about the time I make the transition and get a quick short beep.

If your theory is correct that would explain my experience.

I also usually clean sensors, camera lenses, and look at my tires when I "pre flight" my car before I head out.
