Awfully loud squeal when braking

Hey everyone,

In Toronto, Canada. I just changed my rotors and brake pads on my Infiniti Q50 sport. This is what I got: https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=8264480&cc=3300364&jsn=10388

The pads: https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=8264480&cc=3300364&jsn=10388

Now, every time I start my car after it's been sitting there for a while (e.g. overnight of more than 10-20 mins), it makes this awful, extremely loud squeal when I apply the brakes as I, say as I'm backing out of my driveway. And I think it's coming from the back pads. After a few brakes and when the car gets going, the noise drops considerably. Sometimes it's still there but very faint, sometime it's gone completely.

I called the mechanic that installed it and he said maybe it's because they're cheap non-ceramic brake pads. Well, the pads I bought are ceramic. Not sure if they're cheap in quality or not.

What should I do? What's the problem, you reckon?

I've had the same problem with the Sport brakes, when it's cold coming out if the garage they squeal like crazy, my are two months old and are OEM pads.

Um, high performance brake kits will do that. This is not news. They will improve slightly once they are thoroughly bedded in. How do they work otherwise?

Not sure if its the brakes but when the techs do brake jobs at work, they use BG Stop Squeal. Some black liquid they apply onto the brake pads.

Fixed it for you. Never assume that someone will think that is what you meant. I've seen things.

Feel like people aren't actually clicking on the link....

He is running Centric Posi-Quiet Ceramic pads which are not track/Street rated pads like Hawks, these are a balanced set of pads.
The only time OP should be getting excessive squeak is after the car sat out for a few days while it's raining and not being driven.
Even then it should be pretty minor.

@eednapes - I run those exact pads and rotors on my G37 and have no issues with noise, who did the install the dealer or yourself?
Are/Was your Rotors a dull-gold color when you got the brakes done initially?

Not sure what you mean by initially. Are you referring to the new rotors I posted? Don't think they were gold-coloured.

I had it installed at a shop I was recommended to.

I posted the same question on another forum. Some think it's normal to have this noise. I wouldn't mind it too much frankly if it weren't so loud, but this is almost deafening. Yes, a few brake pumps and it's significantly reduced or disappears, but every time I back out of my driveway, I'm turning heads as far as the end of the street for the wrong reason.

If the mechanic that installed the pads and rotors, doesn't know the difference between a good pad and a lousy one, you went to the wrong Shop, do some hard braking in drive and then in reverse, see if they settle in. I'm in Maple, if it keeps happening let's get together, Dom.

Apparently I see a lot of other people have this problem too, especially with cars that are left outside. But that shouldn't be an issue, because my car, with its previous pads, and my previous cars, have always been left outside, and I never had this problem.

Not sure what people you are referring too but the only people I've seen having this issue are people who messed up during the install or bought super aggressive pads,
Again take it back to the shop and have them double check the work. Odds are they forgot to lubricate all the slides, shims or didn't lock in the wear indicator correctly.

Hi, made an account just to reply but I had this issue right after changing my pads and how I fixed it is to perform the bedding procedure (brake lightly to moderately from 60km to 10km about 5-10 times in a row) then when your brakes are heated up nice and warm, do the same thing but brake at the pressure where the squealing is the loudest (60-80km down to whatever speed it stops squealing). Repeat until squeal is gone.

Best of luck!

The Maintance Advantage pads seem to be a very good deal. If I was going to replace my brake pads with a OEM ish pad I would definitely get these.
My Charbotec XP12/XP10 set up do make some squeak. At light, almost stopped, situations. At a traffic light I can do it on purpose.
