I would never take an air filter off. The insignificant gain vs. possible engine damage is simply not worth it.

Sound is so subjective. That's the difficulty with determining how well turbo spooling can be heard.

In the past sales of the exhaust kit, I've had most say the straight pipe kit was too loud and then one, just one, guy said it wasn't loud enough. His experience? Running straight pipes on his old V8 Dodge.

Best part about the AMS, just to reiterate a few prior:

1) Direct fit.
2) No known issues to date.
3) Developed in conjunction with Infiniti (access to proprietary engineering specs rather than reverse engineered).
4) In the same price range of what a CAI is without ricing out on an eBay piece-together.

To date, no one who's purchased the Infiniti-branded CAI kit from me has had any issues with CEL's, transmission jerking, or Infiniti dealers complaining. Only issue was the same I had when I was doing the install on my buddy's car with him: the lower clamp on the passenger side where the hose hooks to the turbo is a B!

Hope this helps!

P.S. this is Sid, formerly of di_parts, under my personal account as the other no longer belongs to me. I'm with a Nissan dealer now, but, still have access to all Nismo stuff, including Infiniti.
I knew it! The first time I saw your "saboxerman" handle with the same avatar as you used before, I suspected it was you Sid. Good to see you still hanging around here!
