Cold air intake

Has anyone tested no filters? In my supercharged Maxima, on dyno or track days, I would take the filter off. Never did an A-B test, it was just for theoretical gains.

No... Also wouldn't recommend anyone do that the potential risks to the engine aren't worth it, the intake and air filters in modern cars are very well optimized you are talking maybe 3HP best case for dropping a filter.

I wouldn't suggest anyone regularly run around without filters (though I have a lot on my Maxima) but I think there is nothing wrong with losing the filters just for track or dyno days.

It seems exaggerated but did you see the video on youtube with the Mustang being dyno'd with air filters and then with a Filter Guard filter screen and the HP increased some ridiculous amount like 800 to 900HP? I would be curious to know what an honest HP gain would be without filters, especially on our cars.

I strongly recommend AMS, allows you to hear your turbos spooling up really well, I was told by the tech that does my work about stolen intakes causing issues as well. If doing mods on q50 I recommend AMS all day, they’re a bit pricier but the quality and reliability are worth the extra bit.

I installed my lower DPs and AMS intakes at one time [*cough* spread out over 4-5 nights *cough*] and I still can't hear any difference with either.

Thanks for the info. How was the install?

install was about 6 hours ....8/10
very tight engine bay hard to reach clamps .
had to take out the passenger headlight.
And the bumper cover! Yikes.
I like it. I am not of the same thought as the majority of members here that the OEM system is a "true" cold air intake. To me, if the filter/filter box sits in the engine bay, it's not true cold air.
I would say your system is true cold air!
Do you have to remove the bumper cover/grill every time you want to clean/replace the filters?

Here is the delta gain with AMS intakes and a tune. 15HP peak gain.
