Does anyone have any recommendations for a good cold air intake for 2017 infiniti q50 3.0t
AFE claims 7% better flow than OEM for their drop in dry filters. I went with these for the fact that I can clean and reuse. My OEM ones were quite dirty after 9500 miles. The drop ins will save me some $. I'm don't feel or expect any type of performance increase.AFE has data on their site that a stock filter flows 355 CFM @ 1.5" H2O. And we have 2. There is no restriction there whatsoever. Incidentally K&N's flow data on their drop-in for this car is also 355 CFM lol.
I strongly recommend AMS, allows you to hear your turbos spooling up really well, I was told by the tech that does my work about stolen intakes causing issues as well. If doing mods on q50 I recommend AMS all day, they’re a bit pricier but the quality and reliability are worth the extra bit.Stock is a true Cold Air Intake. Stock intake flows VERY well.
You won't notice putting one on. The Stillen has driveability issues. FYI.
You may only want to consider the AMS CAI if you are tuned. If stock just keep your OEM intake.
Some aftermarket intakes are not true CAI and suck hot engine bay air.
No... Also wouldn't recommend anyone do that the potential risks to the engine aren't worth it, the intake and air filters in modern cars are very well optimized you are talking maybe 3HP best case for dropping a filter.Has anyone tested no filters? In my supercharged Maxima, on dyno or track days, I would take the filter off. Never did an A-B test, it was just for theoretical gains.

Sound is so subjective. That's the difficulty with determining how well turbo spooling can be heard.I installed my lower DPs and AMS intakes at one time [*cough* spread out over 4-5 nights *cough*] and I still can't hear any difference with either.
I knew it! The first time I saw your "saboxerman" handle with the same avatar as you used before, I suspected it was you Sid. Good to see you still hanging around here!Sound is so subjective. That's the difficulty with determining how well turbo spooling can be heard.
In the past sales of the exhaust kit, I've had most say the straight pipe kit was too loud and then one, just one, guy said it wasn't loud enough. His experience? Running straight pipes on his old V8 Dodge.
Best part about the AMS, just to reiterate a few prior:
1) Direct fit.
2) No known issues to date.
3) Developed in conjunction with Infiniti (access to proprietary engineering specs rather than reverse engineered).
4) In the same price range of what a CAI is without ricing out on an eBay piece-together.
To date, no one who's purchased the Infiniti-branded CAI kit from me has had any issues with CEL's, transmission jerking, or Infiniti dealers complaining. Only issue was the same I had when I was doing the install on my buddy's car with him: the lower clamp on the passenger side where the hose hooks to the turbo is a B!
Hope this helps!
P.S. this is Sid, formerly of di_parts, under my personal account as the other no longer belongs to me. I'm with a Nissan dealer now, but, still have access to all Nismo stuff, including Infiniti.

Yepper!
Thanks! I’m working to get back in the groove of things. I’m settled at Nissan and got permission to do NISMO stuff. Buddy of mine told me that trying to find someone offering it and at a reasonable price has been tough.
In process of getting a DHL account going for those interested internationally.
If you need something, let me know!

Yo! I sure do. At the moment I use the same on www.infinitiQ60.org and www.infinitiQX60.org, although the latter barely has any activity.Sid, this handle looks familiar. Do you use it on other forums as well by any chance? Good seeing you back btw!
You aren't making 100HP simply by taking off a filter, there are adjustments to the AFR and other factors that would need to take place.I wouldn't suggest anyone regularly run around without filters (though I have a lot on my Maxima) but I think there is nothing wrong with losing the filters just for track or dyno days.
It seems exaggerated but did you see the video on youtube with the Mustang being dyno'd with air filters and then with a Filter Guard filter screen and the HP increased some ridiculous amount like 800 to 900HP? I would be curious to know what an honest HP gain would be without filters, especially on our cars.
