HELP with transmission replacement issue

Hi Everyone,
The transmission went out on my 2017 Silver Sport (140k miles). Rather than rebuilding I sourced a used one from a wrecking yard. Had about 30k miles on it. Took it to transmission shop for install. He informed me that it would need to be reprogrammed. Fair enough. He informs me today that the tranny is in but the car will no longer start. It was running fine before. Gears 1-4.

He states that it may be the crank shaft sensor and said he'd order a new one. Or it may be the wrong transmission. Feel pretty confident that I got the right tranny. Now I'm getting anxious. I've read an older thread that it most likely isn't the sensor and is indeed a programming issue. But thread was about replacing valve body rather than the whole transmission. Does anyone have any insight on this? I really can't afford to ditch the car or take to a dealership. I also really need the car back. Maybe someone has a link or info to point him in the right direction?

I'd very much appreciate any help on this.
Thanks Everyone

I would think that a new (old) transmission, which brings a new (old) valve body, would require the same procedure as changing a valve body, i.e. programming?
