I purchased a new 2017 Q50S at the end of March. It did not come with a spare tire. In fact, Infiniti has gone so far as to almost eliminate that as an option (more on that later).

After investigating how much trunk space I'd lose with the spare tire added, I decided to look for all of the parts to add it myself. The trunk space is not much of an issue for me, since we use our Rogue to do any kind of significant hauling.

Here is what I did to get the parts and install them. Note, you will see further on that Infiniti doesn't include all of the bolt holes necessary to truly add this as if it was from the factory. However, as you'll see, the way I installed it works great and is fully secure.

Parts You'll Need
1. Spare Tire/Wheel T145/70R18
2. Front Foam Insert
3. Left Foam Insert
4. Right Foam Insert
5. Inside Wheel Foam Insert
6. Jack and Jack crank Parts
7. Felt Blanket for Trunk with Spare
8. Cross Bar (recommended but not required)
9. 4 Thick Adhesive Rubber Pads (with single white lines on them)
10. Trunk Mat for Trunk with Spare
11. All Season Trunk Mat for Trunk with Spare (recommended but not required)
** Note, I didn't list the hub clamp parts, because if your Q50 is like mine you'll have nowhere to bolt it to! (strange is the spare even an option anymore?)

You have a couple of options on where to get the parts. You can try and dig through Ebay, Facebook, Infiniti Parts through a Dealer, etc... However, I recommend you go straight to a salvage yard. Look for a car that is only damaged in the front or sides and that the trunk is intact. I found the following website which is a central search site for salvage yards around the US. There are plenty of Q50 parts listed there! I was able to get everything listed above from one source and one 2015 Q50 shipped to me for only $320 and was all in great shape!

Here is the spare tire/wheel I received.

Once you have all of your parts, proceed to post 2 to see how it all installs.

Hi guys picked up my spare this morning, it's basically new, I found that with the carpet under it is very snug. I put the Jack in my tool box, it's all good now.

I noticed this morning that the spot where the spare goes in for my 17 is not as deep, so the spare that i picked up from a 2015 sticks up more then it should, when i was at the dealership to drop my car in, i looked at a 2015 and it is deeper, i d'ont know if you are putting the spare in a15,16,or 18 model let me know thanks.

I believe you are mistaken. To put a spare in your 2017 (or any year model for that matter), you need to buy the additional foam inserts and surrounds that bring the trunk floor "up" to even with the spare. Refer to the pictures in the first couple posts of this thread. If you can't view them in the first couple posts, then refer to this post
https://www.infinitiq50.org/forum/d....org/forum/diy-garage/106018-how-add-spare-tire-kit-2017-q50-3.html#post1238129

Lastly, the spare tire is suppose to be a size T145/70R18.

The spare tire is the right one, there are two, the 17" and 18", the 18" clears the sport brakes, I did not see the frist post, now it makes sense, I did get rid of the runflats. That is the reason for the spare.

do you have the part number for the cross bar or the rubber pads (dimensions would work too, since i can buy a sheet and cut?)? i have 3 of the 4 foam pieces, the tools and the spare itself. just trying to finish the puzzle

I don't have the dimensions off-hand. The thickness is the key dimension for ensuring the spare sits at the correct height. I suppose I could take everything out of my trunk to get measurements. However, I really think you can get those pretty cheap from a salvage yard.

Just search Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market for the spare tire/wheel and contact a few sellers to see if they actually can get the rubber pads out of the trunk. I bet the pads would cost you very little money shipped (less than $20).

you make this sound easy, and maybe for you it was. what make & model did you input for your search(es)? the several times i have tried this yields 2-4 results out of the entire USA, no pictures of the spare itself, and either no responses to email inquiries or nobody has anything except for the wheel itself.

can i hire you to be my spare tire kit broker?

grrr, this process has taken me over 1.5 years now to find the parts. now i find out that the g37 spare tire jack is larger than the q50.

anyone have the part number for the Q50 jack?

i also was only able to get 2 of the 4 rubber shims as even japan is backordered and can't get any

Did not have to trim anything. All pieces came from an existing Q50.

Thanks for the great write up, I ordered all the items (except I forgot to ask them to pack the foam mat and rubber pieces that go under the wheel) for $250 shipped from a salvage yard in the west coast.

Anyone looking for the rubber shims cheapest I found was $14 + 10 shipping. Local dealer wants $29 for them.

Direct from Infiniti shows $24 but when you choose local dealership mine bumps it to $29

Great job finding a good deal from a salvage yard. Also, thanks for adding the info on buying the rubber shims new.

Thanks damonb10 for your excellent write up - I'm walking here in the footsteps of a giant! I was able to order all of the parts from ebay and junkyards to duplicate your setup.

One of the junkyards sent 3 short / thin rubber pads, the ones with the line on them, and 2 tall / thick ones. Both types are made of the same rubber layers glued together. The thick / tall pads have one extra layer so I was able to pry one apart layer-by-layer and make 4 tall ones. Using the taller / thicker pads resulted in a slightly larger gap between the rim face and the spare well and in my car there was no issue with how everything lined up and fit in the trunk. The adhesives re-activated from the weight of the spare tire.

Yep. According to the owner's manual for my 2015, the spare size is 18x4 with a 145/70/18 tire regardless of if you have the 17" or 19" wheels.

Maybe we should be thinking outside the "box" (trunk).
