What are the real maintenance cost figures of the GTR? I still want one or a use exotic.
There are plenty of thread at gtrlife forum on this topic. I can't find one thread (I used to read before) that a guy described the cost of doing it at dealership vs. himself. He described it fully on what to do. Also there are plenty of youtube threads. It is not bad if you do it yourself. Some guys even said, it is like having ferrari's maintenance.

The Downside: GT-R Maintenance Costs - R35 GT-R - GT-R Life

Firstly I did not waste gas / time /and my dignity racing a GTR.

I moved into the Q as I wanted something sporty, RWD and somewhat practical for DD. Two years in and I love this car and once my lease is up I had planned on retiring it as a DD and into a project car. I cant help but think though that this car with mods will ever satisfy the itch for performance like a GTR can out of the box. Im not saying I want the Q to be like the GTR, I recognize they are two different platforms. Ive been pondering drop $20K on the Q once the elase is up (Vinyl wrap / BBK / exhaust / FI) or sell the vehicle...save a year and drop the hammer on a GTR?

Anyone who can relate care to share their thoughts? Love to hear perspectives from previous GTR owners.

If you don't want to fall into the BMW/Audi/Mercedes pool, and you don't want to spend $100k on a Nissan, then look into a Cadillac ATS-V (464Hp) or CTS-V (640Hp) Both are as roomy or more than the Q or GTR, and offer very comparable performance to the GTR. The CTS-V is a beast. Before you criticize just go drive one. I've driven all, and I'm convinced that the better bang for my (next) buck is in a Caddy. The Q has all of them beat on the tech, but the Caddy made me realize how much I missed my '12 G37x Sport - just really fun to drive again. I can't put my finger on it, as to why, but the Q just isn't as fun as the G was. Hope to at least provide an option to consider if nothing else. Best of luck with your decision. If you're happy, that's all that counts.

The CTS-V is not comparable to a GTR. They are extremely different in every aspect other than horsepower, and even then the GTR puts it to the ground very differently (better).

I just leased my Q50S hybrid yesterday to replace my lexus is 250f. I also own a 2014 GTR with FBO so I believe I could share some information.

Like many people have said, Q and G are different cars. For me putting money to make the Q fast is not worth it, it's fast for family car but that's its class. Stock GTR has 550bhp, with 7k upgrade to full bolt on and Run flexfuel E85 you get 600whp, it's an animal. Again HP is not everything, can't compare CTV or Q with GTR when it comes to REAL performance, driving experience (personal opinion).

Maintenance wise, GTR is pretty cheap. The only thing I do is oil change every 3-4k miles with 0-40 synthetic and filter for like 60$ total part and labor.

Expensive part would be tires, but it depends if you track then i would say every car will cost very similar when it comes to tires. $1500 for tires if you track, every 4k miles (R888). If you just daily drive i would suggest RS3 last about 10k miles, or a bit less aggressive MPSS for about 1300-1400 and last about 15k miles.

THe most expensive part is the break, but then if you change rotor of racing car GTR is about the same, rotor and pad (regular ones) are about 3k. But if you want good stuff it could cost you 10-20k...

Overall GTR is cheap to maintain, not too expensive if you don't track. If you track any car will be expensive like the GTR.

Amen ..... Couldn't agree anymore . You can get the oil from any auto parts store along with a Mobil 1 oil filter or either a Nissan oil filter. I have AVD1 wheels with Michelin's . I have landed 3 nails thus far on my reads and the people at discount are pretty chill and replace the rear tires in pairs.

I wouldn't use the word "extremely" - of course they aren't exactly comparable, they are different cars. The '15 CTS-V is very well engineered to "put it to the ground".

I have to say Cadillac has really caught my attention with the new ATS V. I have yet to really read up on the new CTS V, but I have heard it's quite impressive. Check out this comparo if you haven't already between the ATS V, C 63, and M3. The cars all pretty much have the same 0-60 and 1/4 times, but the story changes with the Cadillac once it gets rolling. It hits 100 and 150 mph a little faster than the other two and even though they all have about the same 1/4 time the Cadillac has a 5-6 mph higher trap speed than the other two. That Cadillac is seriously fast.

Right now I am sitting in the waiting room of my Infiniti dealer getting my 18 month service done. They have a used 2014 GTR on the show floor. Only 8,000 miles. Asking price, $84,000.00. A little rich for my blood. I had to leave the showroom. It kept calling my name. "C'mon, just take me for a little spin. You don't have to buy me!"

I will consider the Caddi' when they get rid of that ridiculous "Cue".

Complete garbage. They also need to work on the interior bad if they want to compete in the segment, and offer traction on all four to better put the power down and make all that HP useful. This is the reason they are trapping like they are without putting crazy 0-60 #'s

I'm not a fan of the ATS interior and the CTS to me, while nice, did not quite seem on the same level as the 5 series and the Q70. This is going from memory of the autoshow that was almost a year ago at this point, however.

Cadillac by their own admission has said they need to work more to get the interiors up to par with their engineering.

Yeah, CUE looks horrifying. I don't quite understand all the flack against InTouch other than missing two apps. There's much worse out there.

I'm over the complaints with InTouch. My biggest gripe was Infiniti lying about the apps then trying to sweep it under the rug. But I think InTouch actually works quite well. I like it better (much better) than our Mercedes Command or whatever they call it or the BMW iDrive.

That's high praise. If there is one system out there that I think has gotten it mostly right it's iDrive. I much prefer the touch screen layout of InTouch to iDrive's branching format with small symbols, but it looks like iDrive has tons of apps that would probably be fun for a day to play with and some I'd probably use more regularly. I also like the Wiki locations that shows brief little articles about interesting places near you. It's a neat feature to have on when you have friends in the car.

Yeah, what Infiniti did was not ethical, but reading the complaints was the worst part.

A little unrelated, but I read the Q30 will be getting an Infiniti based infotainment system. Some people were thinking it would be a Mercedes system since the car is basically a redressed Mercedes and has a lot of interior Mercedes components. If that is actually true it will be interesting to see what they put in there because it probably would not be the older system you see in the Q70 and other cars, but it would have to be different than our InTouch as well since there is only one screen.

To be fair, my iDrive is from 09' - but I know you can upgrade it to more modern versions with apps and what not, it still seems to be a similar function though. I don't hate it, just about every infotainment system in any car is at least decent - but I don't think it's better than InTouch at all, and I switch between them regularly.

I'm just so used to the dual screens and like it a lot, it's so useful. Doing the split screen on iDrive isn't comparable.

The only other car I seriously considered at the time I purchased was a 335i. I don't think the sales guy did that great of a job showing me the car though. When I asked him if the infotainment receives updates he gave me a weird look and had no idea what I was talking about. It doesn't really matter at this point and infotainment doesn't make the car, but it would have been nice to get a better demonstration.

I really want to set aside time though to play with my bf's 528i's iDrive more though. I want to see what all features it has that lie I guess more below the surface.

Infiniti was smart with the dual screens and I love that they are both touch. Even though it's not really practical, I use the pinch zoom on the nav when people are in the car. I don't know any other cars that let you use this gesture on a touch screen so it looks cool even if the knob is actually better at doing it.

To the OP, I just came from a 2015 GTR and bought a Q. The GTR is like a sickness, once it gets in your mind you just can't get it out. This seems to happen to everybody, but I also think its why so many of them are sold with low miles. once the honeymoon is over, you have an $80k car thats not too comfy, makes clunks and hops when driven slow, doesn't have a usable back seat, and gets waaaay too much attention. an annoying amount of attention. If you are like me, you are worried about rock chips and door dings everywhere you go and it just loses it's luster.

I DIY all car maint and mods so maint wasn't bad, but when I wanted to tinker with it, I ran out of affordable options quickly . I will FI the Q50, just putting together a plan now. Stillen, or GTR turbo conversion (which I think would be really cool).

I had the GTR for a year and drove 14k miles and did a couple events, so I feel like I used it. The other 2 guys in this forum that have GTR's have Q50's in addition, I think that's the key. If it's your DD it will get old (especially with kids). If you drive for fun on your terms, it's an awesome beast that not much compares to.

I didn't read through the entire thread to see what else has been suggested. But I would start with something larger displacement and go with an LS platform (6.0L). Look at a used C6. The oem components will handle 600whp/550/tq easily (just don't launch hard on drag radials), aftermarket parts are dirt cheap in comparison, tuning software is very in-depth and easy to find experienced tuners, easy to work on and can be built to more hp/tq for 1/3 the cost. Even suspension components are cheap in comparison.

LS platform you are only looking at $6k for a SC set-up tuned that will put down 600whp/550tq and the engine and stock drive-train will last for years if you don't flog the he!! out of it.

Carry on!
