Transmission fluid change

Since, Infiniti and Nissan wouldn't do the fluid change, I ordered the pan and gasket, and did it at my neighbors shop, just for my piece of mind, now I know it's done, the G has 225k kilometers on it. And by the way the rack and pinion no longer leaks, that stop leak worked.

Obviously your Infiniti and Nissan stores are making way too much money since they are turning down routine service. The general managers might be interested to know that their service writers are turning away business.

What kind (brand) of stop leak did you put in the power steering?

So, what are the results?

No change? Better shifting? Worse than before?

I'm confused with the recommendations for the transmission fluid with all the infiniti/nissan 7-sp autos. They all say "lifetime" and requires no fluid changes which seems crazy. I took my 2015 q50 to my local infiniti dealer here in the Phoenix area where I had bought the car new and they basically said that's crazy and they had no problem doing the transmission fluid change for me. They charged me a reasonable rate (seemed to me anyways) and told me when they were done that the fluid coming out was super dirty/worn and recommended I replace it every 30-40k miles rather than the 50k that I had gone. Why is there such a difference of opinion on this transmission even amongst Infiniti dealers? And how could a fluid possibly be a lifetime fluid?

It's not, but it's reasoning is similar to the 10k mile OCIs marketed by corporate - it makes for "advertised" lower maintenance costs to the non-enthusiast crowd who are potential Infiniti owners.

On the contrary, if the engineers could control the advertising, they'd say 5k OCIs for turbo'd engines, 50k mile transmission fluid changes, etc., but... reality is low-maintenance marketing and its perception sells cars.

There is more money in it for them on a $300 service then a $7k transmission replacement, the more they bull**** clients the less loyalty there is to the brand.

I've been told by multiple popular tuners in the VR30 community that if you're pushing past stock power levels it's a very good idea to change the transmission fluid every 30k miles. There's many posts on this forum that provide proof. If you're putting that much money and effort into properly maintaining your car it's a no-brainer to spend $129 on some transmission fluid and $8 on a fluid pump for insurance on your transmission... Even if you move slowly this can be completed in 2 hours. I just did it myself and it was an easy process. The procedure and required tools/fluids are in the video below. EDIT: Wrong fluid pump linked.

I know Nissan does not sell replacement filters for the 7AT on the G, I believe it is one of those things where it is best to leave it be and not meant to be replaced. The fill and drain on the 7AT in the G is fairly straight forward.

If you really wanted to replace the filter, I think the only "decent" one I would take a gamble with is from Oregon Performance Transmission, part number: NTP-92600G. This filter is made in Taiwan.
