Upper Screen Turned Off

Has anyone ever had their upper screen shut down? In my case, everything was working fine. I shifted into Reverse, triggering the backup camera to turn on... but it never did. The screen just went dark. I tried shifting into and out of Reverse, but that did nothing. I cycled the car on and off maybe 5 - 10 times, and still nothing. Pressed the circular button near the gear shifter, went through settings on the lower screen, etc. 4-5 hours later, I turned the car on, and the screen worked fine again.

I mentioned it to the dealer when I went it for service, and he told me that he hadn't heard of the problem before. He searched for fault codes, and there were none.

So now, I turn to you guys. Any thoughts?

If the dealer told you that, he flat out lied. It's a known problem in the 2014s. That was one of the problems I had on mine. Eventually the regional tech specialist came out to meet with me and it happened right wen he was with me. Long story short-the couldn't figure out how to fix it, even after replacing the DCU 3 times, so they finally swapped my car out for a 2015.

I have a 2015 Infiniti Q50 Premium and as i am creeping up on one year of ownership the top screen went black as i was also shifting to reverse... i got to the dealership and when my service consultant started it (30mins. later) the screen came back on.

I have a 2016 Q50 3.0t. My upper screen went black when i shifted into reverse and would not come back until i turned the car off and back on. This is the second time it has happened in a 2 month span. When I went to the dealer they told me that it is a common issue since there are so many active computers on the car and all that. He ran codes, and nothing. That was the first time it happened. It happened again recently and I have yet to take it back since I haven't been able to find the time. Anyone else experiencing anything like this on the newer 2016 models?

Happened to me with an even more questionable effect. Whenever I restarted my car to get the screen back on, the top screen would have some sort of flickering effect. I'd have to restart the car one or two more times before it's back to normal.

The best thing to do is to forward this forum URL to your tech when you take it in for this problem. That sped everything up for me and proved this problems is not isolated. They will just replaced the DCU (Upper Unit)

I've had it happen a couple of times. I've also had the rear view camera stay ON .. anyway for me the fix has always been stop the car and fully shut it off. Open the drivers door, close the drivers door. Restart car. It's like a re-boot..

I wasn't aware of this until a tech told me after my second issue with the DCU/Nav...to reboot the system, just hold down the power/volume button for the radio for a few seconds. That way you don't have to turn off your vehicle.

I wouldn't mind turning mine off. I never use nav. If you're parked, listening to the radio at night, it would be nice to have the screen completely off.

Good morning all knowledgeable ones. At the risk of sounding completely ignorant my question is; should both screens dim or go into night mode automatically when headlights turn on either manually or in auto mode? I have a 2017 premium plus. I think that my screens used to do that and probably should as they are very bright particularly when the navi map is on. I got into the screen settings menu a few days ago and played around with contrast and black levels . I may have changed something else accidently. I am able to switch them into "night"mode manually via the screen menu settings. I cannot seem to have them go into "night" mode automatically.

Thanks.

I had the same problem and I believe what you need to do is to go into the Settings (small sprocket icon in lower left-hand corner of the lower display). On the next screen up at the top is the Day/Night button. There are two settings for this button. You need to make sure that the icon above the brightness slider shows a little sun and the word "Auto" is displayed. The other icon is a moon and that will simply dim the display.

Both displays should automatically dim when the headlights or the running lights are on and the light sensor thinks it's dark enough to switch to "night" mode. This is not explained adequately in the Owner's Manual or the InTouch Manual.

I have a 2014 Hybrid as well, and it's happened twice to me, under the same exact circumstances as yours. I got to a stop sign, shut it off, restarted and it was fine. I've had my car for about two and a half years and I love it, but I'm looking at getting a Q60 RS 400 when my lease is up.

Apologies for the necro-bump, but just wanted to add that this just happened to my 2016 3.0T Premium+, so not restricted to the earlier 2014/2015 models.
Occurred while driving, both screens went blank and then turned on.
Galaxy S7 edge was connected via Bluetooth at the time.
Might be crashing due to conflicts with the phone.

This just happened on my ‘15 Premium. The car is at the dealership for other warranty items, but said that since they can’t replicate it, they can’t replace it. Apparently, my picture of it is not good enough. They recommended video recording it next time. I called Infiniti customer relations, and they were worthless.

I get this problem and the absence of reversing track lines if I engage reverse or drive too quickly after starting. If I give the Infiniti logo enough time to appear and flash on the top screen I don’t have a problem.

I have a 2017 Q50 purchased in March of 17.

recently when placed in reverse the camera stayed on twice when put into drive but shut off after a block. Also when placed in reverse the camera gave no picture but the green lines were there. Also while driving I have had the upper and lower screens go blank then it would reboot while driving. This has been happening more frequently lately. Will eventually take in to service to check it out.

My nav screen was going black when shifting into reverse also. The first time I mentioned it they also couldn't replicate the issue, finally after the third visit to the dealer for regular maintenance they were able to replicate it. They replaced the DCU and it's been working fine ever since. But it's only been a few months with the new DCU.

2015 with 81k miles, top screen started flickering from yellow tint to completely out . Took out my phone and recorded it, Just happened to be passing by my favorite dealer, pulled into service and showed the service manager” yup it’s dying, call me on Monday to set up a day to drop it off. Extended bumper to bumper elite wrap. Also center left vent hotter than the right. Two birds one stone.
