The dual clutch in the S4 and the ZF 8 speed in the 335i is MILES better than the Infiniti 7 speed tranny.

The S4 and 335i will trash a gas Q50S in a 0-60, 1/4 mile, or any higher speed race. No doubt in my mind about it.

The Q50S Hybrid will keep up but even then I am doubtful. The 7 speed auto isn't as slick as the DCT or the ZF 8 speed transmission in the German competition. On top of that, by the time you get up to speed, the battery in the Hybrid will have drained.
Since I traded an (E92) 335i for my Q and have lots of seat time in F30 335i loaners, I have some first hand experience with the G/Q gasser and 335i comparison. I agree, the AT in the F30 335i is definitely better than my Q's and the DCT in the 335is is on another level altogether.

The 335i is definitely quicker than a G/Q gasser in a drag race. I also own a G37 sedan and when I lined it up with my old 335i for a few runs, it was all Bimmer from the start especially from a dig. Roll races were always closer, but advantage 335i. But this was when my 335i was stock...after a few hundred bucks and an hour's worth of time, I added a piggyback tune (JB4) and some E85 which probably tacked on ~100 whp. This kind of power potential and the fact it can be enjoyed with a warranty (if you are smart about it) is a big selling point for a new 335i IMO.

Of course a tuned 335i can be horribly unreliable, especially with the N54 motor. I crossed my fingers for no misfires every time I went WOT. I wasn't willing to put up with that any longer and that's why I bought a second Infiniti.

The 328i, despite having a horsepower of 240, can still get to 60 in 5.8 seconds.

The 335i can hit 60 in around 5.0
The F30 328i has a widely reported 0-60 of 5.6 seconds. That being said, that has more to do with the car's ability to launch well than the car's actual acceleration ability. The rolling start 5-60 time gives a much more telling story of the car's true performance. Race with a 328i at a stop light and beat your opponent to 60. Just don't expect that they won't pass you up after 60.

The 335i is 4.6-4.9 depending on the car/tester.

I got a Q50 hybrid because because of the styling, tech, power, and efficiency over a 335i. I test drove a 335 and had to sneak in yawns so as not to be rude to the salesman. (I had also stayed out late the night before, so it might not have been totally fair.) I honestly think they aren't too attractive with those unibrow headlights. I have total respect for the cars, but they just aren't for me.

O.K. - how about this:

1) I absolutely don't like the styling of the Cadillacs.

2) The MKS is a gussied up Taurus and the MKZ is a gussied up Fusion. Plus, as far as I'm concerned, I would never buy another Ford product after the way they lied about their troublesome, and unsafe, transmission that they had in the older Taurus/Sable cars.
Thank you for explaining the Lincoln brand to me. Before now, I wrote it off as a lot of crack usage! I was like, why do they have two cannibal cars in the same price bracket that are each ugly in their own way?

Andrew,

I have very little knowledge about the torque/hp science. All I know is from reading the rags, and other forums. Hopefully, someone else in the forum could better speak to that.

You are right tho; the 335i has its 300 lb/ft of torque available at 1200 rpm, which is absolutely ridiculous. BMW is known for its awesome transmission, so yeah, it is able to get the tq/hp from the crank with minimal power loss. Thus, this translates to its great 0-60 times; throw in the tunes, it could almost outrun the M3 to 60.

However, my understanding is, the 335i torque goes flat in 5th gear. This is about the time the VQHR37 comes into its own.
Horsepower is just torque over time. 1 HP equals 550 ft.-lbs. of torque completing a revolution in one second. A lot of high torque engines, diesels for example, don't have high horsepower because they can't rotate to very high speeds, but they can still pull.

The engine in the 335i is out of this world. So is the Audi S4's engine. I think only the hybrid Q50 can keep up with those 2 in terms of raw HP and torque.

No way the gasser can keep up.
A 335i is an even match, but an S4 is not. S4's are slower. Don't be fooled by a car with well developed launch control.

Not really getting in to a debate here about the performance itself but I highly doubt a charged battery will have drained in a quarter mile. I have yet to see the battery drop low in any sort of high speed situation (or when punching it for that matter). I could see this on a track if you were driving around multiple laps or something and never braking...

I can say from experience the battery does not discharge that quickly. Plus the faster you are going the faster the battery seems to charge at cruise. If you're cruising at 110, that needle will be far into the blue (charge). The car knows what's up.

I wonder with better tires will help against the S4. The Dunlop RFT is heavy and certainly doesn't help on launch.
I goes against an 328i and beat him badly from a stand still. Haven't goes against a 335i or S4 since I rarely see any on the street. The S4 is as rare as it can get where I drive.

No way an S4 is slower. I did runs versus a friend's 2013 S4 and he wins everytime. Not by much but he does pull ahead.

You're in AWD and I'm in a 2WD. AWD is 0.3 seconds slower to 60 according to Infiniti. I have yet to race an S4 in the real world, but comparing my own 0-90 video with some guy's S4 video that I posted on here earlier shows mine running 20-80 0.5 seconds faster. I would call 0.5 significant. I had to use a weird 20-80 range because he was starting all his runs at 10 mph except for one where he used the launch control. With the launch control, granted, that car launches like a rocket, but I wanted to compare the actual acceleration of the cars' engines. An S4 would win in a drag race from stop, but I definitely think a Q50 Hybrid, again 2WD, would win on a freeway. I'm eager to test this out when I get the opportunity, but if my encounter with a 981 (current generation) Porsche Boxter S is any indication, I should be the one driving off with a smile.

That turbo you describe has 2, this year going to 3, and that 3.0 turbo engine only won Engine of the year for the world each time it came out with two, then bi on one poll, now going to 3 will surely win again. This is a contest that includes Ferrarri and Lambo it is all engines literally. So focus on how the 335i is a car, and the letter M is the ground effects package of the M series without any performance enhancements thus Infiniti intentitionally is raising hte BMW cost while trying tod deceive the layman into thinking they are talking about the M3 which they are not. The closest to the M is the 335is which is 10,000 less but very similar in many ways, and it clearly the M3 light. REading this is like reading an Obama finance report , it makes no sense and is almost painful to read. Lastly Infiniti bases all claims on power using Horsepower which is the cars ability to sustain a speed not get to it rapidly, where torque and how quickly you reach it in the RPM band is the reall key , again the BMW hits 295 at 1400 rpms and sustains it continuosly till it reaches 5000, which is what makes it so crazy powerful, so just like Lexus with their stupid 306 verus BMW 295 meaning literally nothing says a simiilar thing, but it only works on the ignorant, which aren't gonnna drive both cars anyway , so probably aren't actual buyers of either.

I don't hate Infiniti, but this comparison is a joke.

I'm a prospect still and just drove the 328xi, 335xi, 435xi, q50, q50 hybrid.

I'm not sold on any at this point but narrowed down to the 335 and q50 hybrid.

The 328i off the line has more torque..the but dyno says so...it's small motor has amazing throttle... Great acceleration to about 40mph... It starts to die around 60... Above 60 it's all over.... Like a teen on his first night out....

The q50 awd drives like my current g37x...better tyranny..quiet.. Low end is less twitchy...but the upper end pulls a little more than my g37.. Maybe placebo.

I have to say the 328 will give you a q50 or g37 a run for your money up to 50.. Then you will leave him in the dust...

The q50 hybrid.... Great torque up to 70... Then it feels like my g37x. Flooring it at 50 doesn't feel any different than my g37. I was surprised the torque was lost at that point.

335xi... 0 to 20 the q50 hybrid destroys it..but dyno says so. 20 to 50... 335 pulls hard... A little more than the q50 hybrid. 50 to 80 I think the 335 will pull on you...it just kept pulling..hard to say...but the 335 seems to have one over on the hybrid after 60. Below 60 its really close.

Handling.... Q50 beats out the BMW. I had BMWs in the past and I think the stock suspension now sucks...the q50 feels better. Ii hate body roll and they added body roll to the BMW. The 4 series is much much better though..q50 is still better IMO.

Steering....das destroys it...I was surprised they messed with this too..BMW was my favorite in years past but 10 minutes driving with das (quick heavy). I was in love.

Tranny... 328 tranny is sloppy...I was shocked. The 335 was like I remembered quick, crisp...perfection. The q50 was forgettable...10 time better than my g37 (which is the worse tranny I have ever had) but not better than the 335 but not bad either.

Interior... Both were great... I'm a big fan of both... Equal in my opinion.

Features/value... No competition... Infiniti. BMW at the same price feels like they left a ton out. I had to ask if Bluetooth hands free was included!

Breaks....no competition. BMW beats out Infiniti. Hybrid q50 may be the worste breaks I have ever felt...even though it stops fine..BMW was perfect.

Had a fun filled weekend...I'm not sold on any car...the two major sticking for me on the Infiniti, breaks are horrible and all the negative comments on quality.

For BMW it's pricey and due to price, low value (little features).

If price and gadgets were not a factor the BMW edges out the q50 ... But price is always a factor if your in this category... Gadgets I can take them or leave them... Hoestly if the BMW hits my price tolerance I may be swayed away from Infiniti. If not then the q50 hybrid. I will drive both one more time.

I am not bothering with the is350... Cheap plastic interior, looks like a kids car... Doesn't perform any better,etc... Don't know why the love fest. The ats doesn't have enough power for me.

Next time you drive a Q50S Hybrid, try this:
When you driving over 50mph and wants to do a quick acceleration. Put it in manual shift and downshift 1 gear to the 4th gear. Now punch the gas pedal and you be amaze how quick and hard this car will pull.
In automatic shifting, you rarely get the maximum power and torque due to the 7th gear at such a low RMP.
If I race against someone from standstill, I would use automatic first to get a quick launch to 50mphz. Once I past 50mphz, I would put it in manual shift and going at it from there.
The Q50 or hybrid love 4500RPM+ since it is where the maximum power and torque reside.

yeah, but it had the PPK I believe. I might be wrong
Nope...you will be right on the time, Car and Driver tho....PPK all the way...still my boggling.
