This is one tough battle. I am a big fan of the new 335i. Even if it is a poor mans M3 it is still a respectable drivers car.
Why did you choose the Q50 over the 335i?
Why did you choose the Q50 over the 335i?
Since I traded an (E92) 335i for my Q and have lots of seat time in F30 335i loaners, I have some first hand experience with the G/Q gasser and 335i comparison. I agree, the AT in the F30 335i is definitely better than my Q's and the DCT in the 335is is on another level altogether. The dual clutch in the S4 and the ZF 8 speed in the 335i is MILES better than the Infiniti 7 speed tranny.
The S4 and 335i will trash a gas Q50S in a 0-60, 1/4 mile, or any higher speed race. No doubt in my mind about it.
The Q50S Hybrid will keep up but even then I am doubtful. The 7 speed auto isn't as slick as the DCT or the ZF 8 speed transmission in the German competition. On top of that, by the time you get up to speed, the battery in the Hybrid will have drained.
The F30 328i has a widely reported 0-60 of 5.6 seconds. That being said, that has more to do with the car's ability to launch well than the car's actual acceleration ability. The rolling start 5-60 time gives a much more telling story of the car's true performance. Race with a 328i at a stop light and beat your opponent to 60. Just don't expect that they won't pass you up after 60.The 328i, despite having a horsepower of 240, can still get to 60 in 5.8 seconds.
The 335i can hit 60 in around 5.0
Thank you for explaining the Lincoln brand to me. Before now, I wrote it off as a lot of crack usage! I was like, why do they have two cannibal cars in the same price bracket that are each ugly in their own way?O.K. - how about this:
1) I absolutely don't like the styling of the Cadillacs.
2) The MKS is a gussied up Taurus and the MKZ is a gussied up Fusion. Plus, as far as I'm concerned, I would never buy another Ford product after the way they lied about their troublesome, and unsafe, transmission that they had in the older Taurus/Sable cars.
Horsepower is just torque over time. 1 HP equals 550 ft.-lbs. of torque completing a revolution in one second. A lot of high torque engines, diesels for example, don't have high horsepower because they can't rotate to very high speeds, but they can still pull.Andrew,
I have very little knowledge about the torque/hp science. All I know is from reading the rags, and other forums. Hopefully, someone else in the forum could better speak to that.
You are right tho; the 335i has its 300 lb/ft of torque available at 1200 rpm, which is absolutely ridiculous. BMW is known for its awesome transmission, so yeah, it is able to get the tq/hp from the crank with minimal power loss. Thus, this translates to its great 0-60 times; throw in the tunes, it could almost outrun the M3 to 60.
However, my understanding is, the 335i torque goes flat in 5th gear. This is about the time the VQHR37 comes into its own.
A 335i is an even match, but an S4 is not. S4's are slower. Don't be fooled by a car with well developed launch control. The engine in the 335i is out of this world. So is the Audi S4's engine. I think only the hybrid Q50 can keep up with those 2 in terms of raw HP and torque.
No way the gasser can keep up.
Not really getting in to a debate here about the performance itself but I highly doubt a charged battery will have drained in a quarter mile. I have yet to see the battery drop low in any sort of high speed situation (or when punching it for that matter). I could see this on a track if you were driving around multiple laps or something and never braking...The dual clutch in the S4 and the ZF 8 speed in the 335i is MILES better than the Infiniti 7 speed tranny.

I can say from experience the battery does not discharge that quickly. Plus the faster you are going the faster the battery seems to charge at cruise. If you're cruising at 110, that needle will be far into the blue (charge). The car knows what's up.Not really getting in to a debate here about the performance itself but I highly doubt a charged battery will have drained in a quarter mile. No way an S4 is slower. I did runs versus a friend's 2013 S4 and he wins everytime. Not by much but he does pull ahead.A 335i is an even match, but an S4 is not. S4's are slower. Don't be fooled by a car with well developed launch control.

You're in AWD and I'm in a 2WD. AWD is 0.3 seconds slower to 60 according to Infiniti. I have yet to race an S4 in the real world, but comparing my own 0-90 video with some guy's S4 video that I posted on here earlier shows mine running 20-80 0.5 seconds faster. I would call 0.5 significant. I had to use a weird 20-80 range because he was starting all his runs at 10 mph except for one where he used the launch control. With the launch control, granted, that car launches like a rocket, but I wanted to compare the actual acceleration of the cars' engines. An S4 would win in a drag race from stop, but I definitely think a Q50 Hybrid, again 2WD, would win on a freeway. I'm eager to test this out when I get the opportunity, but if my encounter with a 981 (current generation) Porsche Boxter S is any indication, I should be the one driving off with a smile. No way an S4 is slower. The q50 hybrid.... Great torque up to 70... Then it feels like my g37x. Flooring it at 50 doesn't feel any different than my g37. I was surprised the torque was lost at that point.
.
Nope...you will be right on the time, Car and Driver tho....PPK all the way...still my boggling.yeah, but it had the PPK I believe. I might be wrong
