I am having the same issue except my car only unlocks with the fob unlock button. The handles dont work. The dealer replaced my battery and it did not fix it. However, my 2nd fob worked for a couple of weeks. I received a battery low message and replaced the battery. A week later I am getting the same key id incorrect message with the 2nd fob. I guess I will take it to the dealership and see what they can find.
That would be my recommendation. This doesn't sound like a key fob issue but it could be a BCM problem or a problem with the front door unlock sensors.

I promise this will work . Open key fob and remove circuit board and clean back with electrical cleaner let dry and reassemble. I work at a dealership and took hrs to figure that out

Hi, I'm a new owner of a 2013 Q50 hybrid and running into a problem I can't find any info online about. The car is equipped with remote entry and keyless start BUT it will only start when the key is placed in the little compartment in the center console under the two screens near the shifter. If the key is anywhere else in the car, all I get is "key ID incorrect" on the screen. Touching the start button with the key also works.

The problem is consistent and replicable, identical with both keys and I replaced both batteries - still the same. Coming from a car where I could keep the key in my pocket, this is super inconvenient and I'm hunting for a solution. FWIW opening and closing the car works as intended and touching the handle unlocks correctly.

Is this a known issue? I got the car used so it's possible that the previous owner added/changed something to make it this way. I dug through the settings and found nothing, is there maybe a hidden/service settings menu of sorts where this is set? Possibly a security feature that narrows down the "keyless start" range to just that area?
Hey i have a 2018 Q50, yesterday i was trying to tap into some current to install some interior LEDs, while i was at it i decided to tap into the cigarrette lighter power and unplugged the little light that goes to the center console, i was unsuccesful getting to the correct wire so i gave up for the day but forgot to plugged the little light back in, as i was thinking of getting back to it, i didnt think anything of it. Boy was i wrong i had the same issue you are facing, none of the keyfobs worked unless i got it close to the push button. Finally i said let me see if this could actually be the culprit and to my surprise everything worked right as rain. Not sure what one thing has to do with the other but that could be your culprit as well.

Hi Guys!

I have a similar issue but in my case there is no message on the dashboard, something like key ID invalid or low battery on the key.
I am able to unlock and lock the car but I am not able to start the engine until I place the key in close vicinity of the ignition switch.
In that moment i receive a picture with the brake pedal and ignition switch.
I should mention also that I replaced the key battery but the issue is still there.
Do we have some feedback out here?
Thank you!

Did you use a fresh, name-brand battery and not a no-name one from eBay?

I had a Duracell as a replacement, hopefully a genuine one.
I should worry about battery quality since I do not receive any warning on the display?
I am really confused, this is why I started to look myself for technical documentation.
I will try to clean myself the circuit of the key fob but I do not expect a good result.
I will visit a dealer probably but here in Romania there is no Infiniti dealer, I will have to travel to Bulgaria so but the time of my trip I need to be prepared.

Try disconnecting the negative battery terminal for ~10 minutes. This supposedly can work...Believe you want to the fob(s) in the car when you reconnect.

It's about the only thing I haven't tried for my POS fob that refuses to work properly since the fob battery died. Tried a few different good "brand name" CR2032's and they registered sufficient voltage on the multimeter...Also, I do not get low battery error, either.

POS stand for pieceofshit?:)
How did you fix it in the end?Sorry but I didn't get it!
I am afraid to disconnect the battery, I saw discussions on forums about issues after this step.
I am posting also some snip from SEC section of Q50 hybrid model.
As far as I understand this system has 3 internal antennas and one external.
I am not able to understand why lock/unlock is working but starting of the car doesn't work since both systems are working based on key Id request sent by ECM through this antennas.
When you press a door switch ECM send a key ID request over antenna's to the smart key. If requested ID,signal received over receivers), is ok door is opened.
So if this system is fine for me I am assuming that antenna's and receivers are fine. Why the same principle is not applied when I try to start the car I have no idea.
I am not fully understand when NATS key ID is requested, probably this has something to do with a low battery situation on the smart key.
Anyway I posting here some snips from some of the relevant FSM.
All I was able to understand from this documents by now is the fact that I am starting the car based on NATS key ID situation which is similar with the one when you have actually a dead battery on a smart key. Why I have no warning or alarm on the display, again no idea!
Thank you for your help...just in case!

Well I'm having similar issue. With both key fobs, was having trouble starting car. With each, it was not necessarily saying that it was not detecting key(s), but just having trouble turning over. Would try for a second or 2, but them just gave up. I assumed with a 4.5 year old original car battery, could be dead car battery. So I replaced car battery. Now the new battery is in, but now the car is not detecting either key fob. I have now since replaced each fob battery with brand new Duracell 2032s. Nothing. only way to start car is to touch each key fob to the start button. What am I missing??

btw - forgive me for posting here, but I've got a 2019.5 QX60 - I am assuming similar issues and resolutions among models when it comes to this type of problem.

Probably the BCM. Since you’re definitely within the warranty period, I’d take it down to your closest Infiniti dealership with both keys and take advantage of the warranty.
