"open bonnet" error light - unable to get rid of it

so whilst i was changing my start/stop auxiliary battery in the boot of my q50 2.2d (2016)- i thought it would be a good idea to start the car without that battery in... obviously i was welcomed with a host of error messages and car would not start.

so i completed the replacement and then started the car and now all works perfectly well.... which is great

however, that probably triggered an error code which means i have the constant "open bonnet" error light that has lit up....
this blinks 3 times when i start the car and then stays on forever whilst i drive around... it never turns off (unless i turn the car off obviously!!)

i tried the different manipuations given online (i.e. press start two times, when it blinks wait 7 sec and turn car off and then do that again and again and again and again...) - probably like 30/40 times to no luck

i then bought myself an obd ii bluetooth reader and got torque up and running which found no error codes

anyone know how and if it is possible to get rid of this light without putting masking tape on it, or without having to go to the dealership (of which there are no more in the uk lol...)

I believe it was this, but it isn't easy, as mentioned, it takes a second or 2 for the car to recognise the button press, so you have to pre-empt the behaviour and press the button early or you miss the window.

The procedure to reset Pop-Up Hood light manually is:

1) Press twice the Start Button (Do not start the Engine, only instrumentation!)
2) wait about 7 sec, the Pop-Up light goes off ---> Press Start Button immediatly (Switch Off)
3) Press twice the Start Button (Do not start the Engine, only instrumentation!)
4) wait about 7 sec, the Pop-Up light goes off, Flashes 3 times, when goes off press Start Button immediatly (Switch Off)
5) Repeat steps 1-2-3-4
6) Press twice the Start Button (Do not start the Engine, only instrumentation!)
7) The Pop-Up light blinks slowly
8) Turn Off

The auto electrician ran a lot of checks, or rather his computer did, and examined the actuators that fire the pop-up bonnet, they’re by the bonnet hinges. The actuators hadn’t fired, fortunately. He cleared all the codes and it looks like there was an issue with a sensor from when I’d had a minor bump. Haseebch’s advice matches my experience, so an OBD scanner could be the best way forward. Though how you find a reliable one I don’t know. The ones on EBay for under £10 look a bit dubious to me.

Good luck

I have the same issue on my infiniti q50 2.2d 2016 but in my case when i bought it on the passenger side was a little bump on the corner I assume was hit the curb and my hood I'm struggling to get it close beacuse and sometimes when I'm getting the bums the hood pop up its obviously is something wrong and also Is missing the left front sensor but I'm not sure exactly the piece I need to look for any advice?

Get a quote for repair, hopefully it will contain the details of the part required, you can then search online for that part number. Unlikely to be a Mercedes part. The 2.0T and 2.2D engines are Mercedes, but that is about all the parts any Q50 shares.
I you can get the genuine parts cheaper, buy them and take them to the shop to install and clear the error code.

if its a defective electronic part - then i guess you can try and search it on ebay and replace yourself.
if you have part number i'm sure there will be a generic nissan or mercedes part (my MAF replacement was a mercedes part i got off ebay for like <ÂŁ50 whereas garage quoted something crazy)

i would get a cheap obd scanner and the carscanner app (i think its still free for a few uses), and check what error code you get.

This seems overdone and ridiculous. But I'm never a pedestrian so I guess it's not for me. And also, don't hit people, really drives up your insurance. In fact I would say the threat of legal action and insurance costs does more to protect walkers than anything else ever could. What would be cool and much more effective, an air mattress blowing onto the hood.

The peeve for me is 'holiday'. A holiday is not a vacation! A holiday is a specific celebration of a particular event and is marked on all calendars and happens at/around the same date every year. A vacation is your own planned personal time off work! lol!

Humour! :) Tee hee.

What's a windshield called?
Windscreen.. although I have a feeling I am going to regret starting this! :)

A holiday is a specific celebration of a particular event and is marked on all calendars and happens at/around the same date every year.
Fair enough, we would call those events by their name.. Christmas, Easter, show day, Australia Day, etc. A holiday is something you during that time off. Eg, we might say 'I went on holidays at Christmas'.
Interesting difference though, I hadn't considered that one.

How does this process help a pedestrian you are actively running over? Does the hood jump up to meet them and keep them from falling over the hood?

update should someone else find this

i found a really old obd2 scanner i had in the boot that obviously is better than the new one i bought

as after connecting it i downloaded Carista that found lots of error codes (carista did not work with my other obd2 Bluetooth dongle) ... BUT asked to pay to clear them
so then i went back to Torque Pro.... No errors!!! confused i continued search on Google Play Store and found Car Scanner (com.ovz.carscanner) that has a Infiniti mode - scanned and found lots of inactive/archived errors... one of which was:

U1000(00)
Raw code: D00000
ECU: Pop-up engine hood for pedestrian protection[Archive (inactive)]
Status: Confirmed
OBDII: Class 2 Communication Malfunction
Infiniti: SCP (J1850) Invalid or Missing Data for Primary Id

cleared code and the light turned off immediately....

went for a drive, nothing reappeared!!

happy days, will probably pay for that app to keep it as very handy!

Okay! Then Consult and/or dealer...

Whoa. So when you're driving through an open air market and score 50 points, assuming the point awards are the same there, when you hit a walker...then the "hood" blows off and smacks the target on the head? Are bonus points awarded for the head shot? Is everything a Benny Hill episode there?

Try this.

It worked on mine, this light was on when I bought the car because the previous owner had a front bumper repair and I suspect it was started without the front bumper, and therefore the impact sensors connected.
On my hybrid it seems to take a while to action a button press, so you have to press it about 1 sec before the specified time period so the ignition actually turns off when you need it to. not sure if the 2.2d is the same though.
Otherwise you need consult or a diag tool that can access the SRS system.

This ^^. How many pedestrians were injured in this bonnet scandal?!

I agree with Avedis as to the warning light's purpose. The pictogram shows the hood, sorry bonnet, "opening" at the rear edge which it doesn't, it opens at the front of the car so it is not a simple "bonnet open" indicator.

Did anyone ask the OP if he has hit a pedestrian?

so... as i indicated - this message was not there when i drove home from the shop where i bought my auxiliary battery -
i then spent about 30min changing the battery - and realised i had the wrong battery size.... so i thought why bother to but the origianl one back, i will just drive back to the shop without the auxiliary battery and change it.... that is where i was presented with a load bunch of errors as i tried to start the car - and it would not start.
so i put back the original battery, car started but with that "open bonnet" error light.... went to the shop fine, picked up the new battery fine, came home and installed the new battery fine.... and now the start stop function works perfectly fine.... but, that "open bonnet" error is not going

i did look in the user manual and it is exactly what everyone is saying it is - i.e. there has been an impact somewhere, but i know there hasn't, as i know exactly when the error appeared!

so i have just taken the main battery positive terminal out and will confirm in about 1-2h after i reconnect it to see if the message has gone.... otherwise i guess i will have to pay up @ the nissan garage! sigh!
i might just wait until its due a service and try and therefore get them to do it at the same time without charging me

I just checked my bonnet and boot, and all is good. (y)

it can't be a collusion related message - as it appeared as i worked on the battery in the boot lol
and on the idle car

i know i created it myself by trying to turn on the car with the back battery missing - however, i was very cautious to cover the wires with plastic to avoid any short circuit

i will try and disconnect the battery tomorrow for an hour or so to see fi that works....

any other risks of disconnecting the battery for long duration? like any risk of the keys not being recognised anymore etc
the car drives fine so don't want to make things worse just for the light

If you would have activated it, you'd notice it immediately. The rear of the bonnet has an explosive charge that raises it when the sensors detect frontal impact. If disconnecting the battery doesn't reset it, a shop with a CONSULT probably can.

What you always can do is to disconnect the 12V battery (–) for an hour or so and hope the error light is gone then...
