update should someone else find this

i found a really old obd2 scanner i had in the boot that obviously is better than the new one i bought

as after connecting it i downloaded Carista that found lots of error codes (carista did not work with my other obd2 Bluetooth dongle) ... BUT asked to pay to clear them
so then i went back to Torque Pro.... No errors!!! confused i continued search on Google Play Store and found Car Scanner (com.ovz.carscanner) that has a Infiniti mode - scanned and found lots of inactive/archived errors... one of which was:

U1000(00)
Raw code: D00000
ECU: Pop-up engine hood for pedestrian protection[Archive (inactive)]
Status: Confirmed
OBDII: Class 2 Communication Malfunction
Infiniti: SCP (J1850) Invalid or Missing Data for Primary Id

cleared code and the light turned off immediately....

went for a drive, nothing reappeared!!

happy days, will probably pay for that app to keep it as very handy!

How does this process help a pedestrian you are actively running over? Does the hood jump up to meet them and keep them from falling over the hood?

You keep obd2 scanners in your boots? ;)

I believe the intent is to put some space between the bonnet/hood and the engine, so if their head impacts it, it has some movement to reduce injury, basically reduce the deceleration rate of their head/brain. Kind of like a crumple zone for a pedestrian I guess? :)

Yep, all in good humor!

he said 'boot'.. so just the left one.. :)

this is kind of entertaining.. a bit like when an American posts on an Australian automotive forum and everyone has a dig at 'hood', 'trunk', 'gas', 'windshield', etc.. :)
What's a windshield called?

The peeve for me is 'holiday'. A holiday is not a vacation! A holiday is a specific celebration of a particular event and is marked on all calendars and happens at/around the same date every year. A vacation is your own planned personal time off work! lol!

Humour! :) Tee hee.

Windscreen.. although I have a feeling I am going to regret starting this! :)

Fair enough, we would call those events by their name.. Christmas, Easter, show day, Australia Day, etc. A holiday is something you during that time off. Eg, we might say 'I went on holidays at Christmas'.
Interesting difference though, I hadn't considered that one.

I think it works much like Herbie the Love Bug. I believe there was a scene in one of the movies where Herbie opened his hood (or is it the trunk, since the engine is in the rear??) and swooped a person in to the front storage area for safety.

I think it's for launching the pedestrian off your car so you can keep going without stopping. ;)

Correct! Coupled with taller noses on the cars these days. Ahh, the good old days when you could just chop them off at the knees.

This seems overdone and ridiculous. But I'm never a pedestrian so I guess it's not for me. And also, don't hit people, really drives up your insurance. In fact I would say the threat of legal action and insurance costs does more to protect walkers than anything else ever could. What would be cool and much more effective, an air mattress blowing onto the hood.

I've always wondered if that is why the current gen Mustang has such a bulbous nose since it was designed to also be sold in Europe. From some angles it is simply very unattractive. I thought maybe it was just a packaging issue with the engine and needed cooling, but now I'm not so sure.

By the same token, it surprised me the Q50 was sold there since it has such a low nose, which to me is one thing that makes the Q so good looking.
