Recommened DCU Replacement

I'm purchasing a 2015 Q50 base AWD sedan and neither the top nor bottom screen works correctly. The top one works SOMETIMES with the backup camera (see pic), but the bottom one never works. Each has the back lit glow but neither display shows text.

My local dealership is recommending that replace the Display Control Unit (is this the right acronym?) for about $3500.

1. Which part, specifically, is that? Top screen? Bottom with climate? Behind?
2. Is there a more cost effective repair?
3. If I get this done by a repair shop or at home, does Infiniti need to program anything?
4. Can I replace both screen screens with a single large aftermarket "tesla-like" screen? Will everything work? eg. radio, climate, backup camera, etc?
5. Any additional info would be great!

TY!

Feed the search function with "tesla style" or similar and you'll find alternatives. All of them have different (bigger or smaller) flaws, but that's the same with OEM...

You could buy a used DCU for your model year for a lot less money on eBay. When a DCU is replaced, the vehicle configuration is saved on a CONSULT beforehand and then written into the replacement DCU.

So in essence, if we don’t have a Nissan CONSULT tool, the most inexpensive way to take care of this is to disassemble the dash as much as possible, take the car to a dealer (provided it can be driven at this point), and have the dealer hook up the CONSULT, and do the physical swap of the DCU module we provide to them?

#12 ·
eBay has them for less than $100, depending on the condition. Do you have navigation or not? That makes a difference as far as the correct DCU.

When I was installing my SmartAuto kit, I broke a flat cable retaining clip on the module in the upper screen. I purchased a used upper screen/DCU on eBay with a scratched screen for $49 and swapped it into my upper screen assembly. It worked perfectly and did not require any dealer/CONSULT work. My understanding is that the only time the CONSULT is needed is if you are trying to install a DCU with navigation in a non navigation car and vice versa.

There are separate part numbers for DCUs with nav and without nav, FWIW. I'm only going by what the service manual says.

You should be able to find the same used components on ebay as long as they match the vin number. I can help you lookup parts if you have your vin number and find you the exact part number that matches your car. Then you can simpy just search for it on ebay and it shouldnt cost no more than a couple hundred bucks or so.

Good advice however it’s much easier than that.
Nav or not is all you need to know when purchasing a replacement DCU.

#22 ·
Ignorance and folks that wouldn’t attempt the fix themselves.

#23 ·
It's pretty straightforward. Some finishers and the Integral Switch have to come off to access the DCU. You just have to be careful not to break any pawls getting them off. After that, it's just a screwdriver show to remove the DCU.

Infinitiusa parts lists the DCU w/o nav (28387-4HB7E) at $3,439.91. Discount Infiniti Parts lists it at $2,648.73. Ridiculous.

A few Attorneys General should be made aware of this and take legal action. Or at least there has to be a way to embarrass Infiniti over this. I would also be curious as to what other manufacturers charge for a similar part. The problem is not too many people have sympathy for others that can afford a $60k car.

Jumping in because my 2015 Premium/Nav just went dark a few days ago. Not able to reset and dealer says it needs new DCU. I’m looking for a used part and will attempt installation myself, or dealer will do it for $250. So far I have not been able to locate a used part with the same part number suffix as my dealer quoted - HB6E - and I’m wondering about interchangeability. Any info on that and/or tips on self installation would be greatly appreciated. Recommendations for eBay or other online sellers also welcome.

KenHuber - good luck, looking forward to your next update.

It looks like there are a couple of part numbers that will fit your Q50:

Part Number: 28387-4HB6E
Supersession(s): 28387-4HB6D; 283874HB6E

Fair enough! I’m a Nissan fanboy because of their motor sports offerings, but of all the cars I’ve owned, this only my second Nissan product. While I admire the history, I won’t say no to a better car based on badge. For example, had a Kia Stinger GT2 AWD been available for the same price as my Q was, I would’ve bought which ever one drove better, was more comfortable, was faster, or at least was 2 of those three, and I’m pretty sure it would’ve been the Kia lol

So I am less likely to find a 2015+ DCU configured for Q50S Hybrid RWD, non NAV, rear cam, Bose audio, rear Sonar, LDP, DAS, etc...

I know that to configure a used DCU we need Consult 3 Plus, but is very expensive... Some body know SVCI ING Programming and Diagnostic tool Scanner? It has a much more accessible price, but I don´t know if this programming tool could work to reprogramming the used DCU in case that I need to change the configuration.

This is the Programming tool that I talking:

Sorry for talking in a dead thread but I am trying to reprogram my DCU if possible because DCUs off ebay keep not working. Did you ever end up buying that tool and did it work? I can't tell from online videos if it can reset or reprogram the DCU but I would love to not buy a consult 3 as they are so expensive.

I'd talk to @nickdaria about replacing both screens before buying them. Your lower display being out might be due to the DCU failure. He can verify if this is possible.

And stick with your original thread. Don't post the same thing in multiple threads.

Sorry I need a refresh, what's going on with this one?

I have the same issues and here is how I'm going to fix it:

You HAVE to bring the car to a dealership to replace the dcu and get a new one programmed to the car this is why you cant by one from a junk yard or ebay.

Instead of paying over $2000 for repairs, I purchased an extended warranty that covers the DCU for $75 a month and I'm going to wait a couple of months and put at least 500-1000 miles on the car before I bring the car in for repair and ill pay a couple hundred to fix it rather than paying $2000+.

That's not true. See my previous post. We've had others here buy a used DCU and install it that happened to be configured the same as their bad DCU and didn't require a dealership reconfiguration. Just depends on how lucky you are buying a used DCU. You can buy a used DCU for $100 - $200 on eBay and pay the dealership to reconfigure it.

I agree with Avedis. Don't assume one dealership's take on something reflects the position of all dealerships or Infiniti as a whole. The are independent dealers. There have been plenty of others on here that have had used DCU's reprogrammed at a dealer, not to mention existing DCU's that the owner decided to reset for no apparent reason.
