I just bought a used 2017 Q50 and the Nav SD card is missing. There is a lot of conflicting info on the net about whether the card has to be programmed with my nav ID or not. It isn't always stated what years they are talking about. The used car dealer says he is sending me an SD card, but I fear it won't work. Will this work ( Navigation Map Updates | Q50 | 2017 | INFINITI Navigation First Generation SD Map Update Version 12.5 for United States and Canada | HERE ) or do I have to take it to a dealer?
When ordering Map Update from HERE, you will be asked for the NAV ID and the SD card will be shipped with activation code. That code is programmed to unlock the maps on the SD and work with your NAV. That's just a 10k-feet view without knowing the nitty-gritty details how they implemented it.

I don't know if Nissan have a generic map build that's not locked but I won't be surprised if they have one.

All navigation SD cards must be registered to a specific vehicle's NAV ID. That way, someone can't take your SD card and use it in another vehicle. It doesn't matter which model year.
Old topic, but still make sense to share experience. I bought map card from junk yard in Florida (not thefts, not stolen) from matching year and moth range to my vehicle and it just works. I didn't need to enter any codes. But that was a risk taken by me, since no returns were accepted as it is considered electronics part.

If there is a junk yard which have a few available, why not to go and try them? These maps do not worst $$$ asked by dealer, may be at most some 50$. but their absence makes driving too annoying with popping up irritative message "insert map card" each time when you start vehicle.

I have a 2014 q50 without navigation. I found a used 2016 nav screen along with a SD card port that I install. Only thing I’m missing is the SD card to complete the installation. I also called Infiniti dealer and they gave me a part number for the sd card for the nav screen. Do you knows if it’ll work since I didn’t give my vin # to get a part #?

I believe I had to supply the ID number of my navigation unit rather than my VIN.

The map card comes from HERE North America, not Infiniti. I ordered mine back in April of 2021 and at that time that was supposedly the last map update HERE was going to produce for the Q50 (if I'm remembering it correctly).

See this thread:

My issue is that my car doesn’t come with the nav feature so if I give them my vin number I don’t think they would be able to find a sd for my vin. That’s where my concern is. I’ve got the sd card part number from the Infiniti dealer for the 2016 screen but I did not provide a vin for them to give me the part number

Just buying a 2016 DCU with navigation and an SD map card won't get you navigation. You'll also need an external data input box with an SD card slot, a NAVI control unit, GPS antenna, LVDS cables, and appropriate wiring harnesses for all of that.
