I'm not having any trouble with my iPhone connected to both my pebble and the Q50 at the same time. Turning on "show notifications" in the Bluetooth profile on the phone and then changing the connection method on the Q50 from "From Unit" to "Bluetooth Audio Device" and back again allows me to receive texts through InTouch.

It works for me, there's an extra setting on the iPhone under the "MY-CAR" Bluetooth device to "Show Notifications". I just responded over here, so thought it might help cross reference the thread...
Switched on the "Show Notifications" and now receiving texts while driving. Excellent. Thank you

UGH!!! I cannot get my iPhone to receive texts. I had already changed it to "show notifications" but no matter how many ways I tried changing things on my phone and on InTouch, text messages would not show up on the monitor. The Text Message app never showed that I had any incoming texts although I had someone sending them left and right as I tried to get it to work! I don't know what else to try! Frustrating!!

The sound of a text message never came through my speakers like they did the first time I drove my Q50. Does anyone else with the Q50 hear the notification of a text through their speakers when your phone is connected?

Infiniti Chick, greenhut had originally found this and this got my iPhone 5 working with text messages.

On the InTouch screen: Settings->Bluetooth->Connect Device->[click your paired device]->Information->Connection

There are two choices: "From Unit" and "From Bluetooth Audio Device". Mine defaulted to "From Unit". I switched to "From Bluetooth Audio Device".

After doing that, when I receive a text message an alert sound plays in the car, it shows up on the display and with a prompt will read it to me.

All of the other alert sounds (texts, email and other programs) play through the audio system while I am streaming music over bluetooth, but that is just the phones audio system doing that.

To all the folks not receiving texts on their iPhones after following greenhuts directions for set up:

Make sure your iPhones do NOT have the Messages app open on your phones. Simply shut off the screen and put the phone in your pocket/purse/center console. Then have someone send you a text message and report back whether it works ?

Very good point! If the Messages app is open/active, there is no notification because your iPhone thinks you saw the message.

Thank you!! I'm not sure what changed but I just went to my car to change the Bluetooth setting and as soon as I plugged in my phone (before I could change the setting) my mom sent a text and it showed up on the Navigation screen. I went ahead and changed the setting and had her send another and it still worked. Not sure why it wouldn't earlier! At this point I don't care why as long as it works moving forward! Ha I assume the message popping up on the Nav screen is the correct location!

Thanks for the heads up on other sounds playing only while listening to the phone music! That explains it as I haven't since the time I heard it the first day! Ha

I HOPE that text users know that you need to have the chat/text window closed for it to notify you, just like using the phone as usual. :p

Good to hear it works on you all. However, I just couldn't find "Show Notification" after click "My Car", under "forget this device" . It only showed "synch address book" "synch call history" etc. ) Then I tried to pair as "audio device", still no "show Notification" and now without any of those "synch" option any more! What did I do wrong! :(

Is it because I'm driving a M? But shouldn't iPhone 5 show the same (notification) regardless which car it's in?

From Infiniti's website. I put in a 2012 M37 and an Iphone 5. Doesn't look like messages are supported ("NA"):

iPhone connectivity is flaky at best. Try forgetting and re-pairing a few times...

Thank you for your messages. Well, I guess I just need to take a deep breath and relax. WAIT until I actually get into my Q50 b4 trying any of those fancy new stuff! lol

Will report back to you all when THAT happens...

And of course my car wasn't there this weekend. Lets see next week/weekend. ... Good thing I'm at least on a loaner!

I have an iPhone 5 with IOS 7.0.6. I can receive texts but can't reply to them thanks to Apple (viewed as a security risk). You have to enable Notifications on the blue tooth pairing.

I know this has been extensively addressed, but I still can't receive texts on my iPhone 5S, iOS 7.1.

I have it connected by USB, and in my iPhone have Settings|Bluetooth|My-Car|Show Notifications enabled. I'm a bit unclear on the Q50 side- I've enabled "From Unit" and "Bluetooth Audio Device" successively, and still no luck.

From anyone who has this working, what is your Q50 setting? I'd sure appreciate any other suggestions.

Thanks.

If I remember correctly, Neill you need to unpair and re-pair your phone, then enable notifications.

This is a major disappointment and frankly a safety issue. What should have been an intuitive feature is anything but. Per Infiniti Consumer Affairs there is no date for this fix. You can:

Ignore the text.
Pull over and reply through the phone.
Try to text while driving. I think this should be illegal in all 50 states!

Just to be clear, the lack of ability to reply to a text with a Q50/iPhone is not an Infiniti issue. Apple does not allow third party apps to send SMS/iMessage texts - bluetooth, local or otherwise. No cars support this with an iPhone. This may change with Carplay.

You should be able to receive texts with an iPhone. Works reliably for me and many others.
