@bluegsxr2012 At this point, that may be your only option. See what the dealership can do about connecting to it and I guess "reflashing" the TCM if that's what it needs. I suppose that's the risk you take purchasing refurbished valve bodies, who knows if the vehicle will accept it. Or maybe it's a a bad refurbished valve body assembly from the seller.
Hey my friend, I too live in Houston and I am stuck with the same code. Infiniti and transmissions shops are now quoting $4,000 to do this job and that is absurd. I can buy new valve body from infiniti with parts for about 1300. I want to do this myself and I am mechanically inclined and feel confident about it, but if you can help me I will be forever grateful. I live in Humble Texas. Even a phone call to walk through the process would be appreciated.

Man, not sure where you are, but if you are ever near Houston I owe you a beer! I think we ended up with about 6.5qts (out of 9.5 added) left in the transmission. Test drove it and is working as normal again, no codes, etc. We have to do brakes in a couple of months, will probably recheck the level then but feel good that we have it where it needs to be.

That part of the procedure is pointless in my mind if you have replaced the valve body and gotten the vast majority of fluid out of the transmission already. I can see it if you are just replacing 3 quarts at a time to change the fluid by draining and filling the pan multiple times (dilutes the old fluid left in the transmission).
I too live in Houston and I see that Addiction does too. I live in Humble and now having the valve body issue. Transmission shops and Infiniti now quoting 4000. Called Gary's transmission and he said he would do it for 3400 but his warranty was shady. West Houston Inifiniti quoted 3600 plus tax and Sewell north quoted 4000. This is just absurd repair cost for something like this. I plan on doing this myself.

so my car is having symptoms of the failing valve body (i.e rubber-bandy gear engagement, slipping into gears, etc). BUT I have not thrown the infamous P0720 code. Should i change the valve body now before it happens, or just wait until it fails?

I just replaced my valve body and to be frank, the dealership and transmission shops should be ashamed of themselves for charging 4k for this fix. If you’re mechanically inclined then it’s definitely doable. With a lift it probably takes the dealership no more than 2 hours to complete and that’s a stretch.

We need to join together and get a recall going

They will never recall it insofar as there is not safety hazard; this statement was right out of an Infiniti technicians mouth. There is not much we can do here outside of a lawsuit. One reputable transmission repair shop told me that the soldering pins on the valve body go bad where the speed sensor is housed and that Infiniti has known about this issue. He also said it’s quite risky to place a refurbished VB since the elements used to fix this is soldering pin issue is proprietary to Infiniti/Nissan and a refurb will eventually fail again shortly after. How much that is true I will never know; hence why I decided to do the job myself and not be held hostage by these shops.

I just ordered a used one with less miles

You should be fine with that, it’s not difficult to replace; for me the hardest part was doing this on my back without a lift. I lifted the car as high as I could with 6 ton jacks. A helping hand to place the new one in might be necessary for you as it was for me.

I see lots of fellow Houstonians here

my q50 just started with the same issue. Took to local transmission shop and was quoted $3500!! That’s so ridiculous. Called southwest infinit and they quoted me $3000. I’m envious of those who were able to repair their own cars.. having said that.

Anyone have recommendations for a transmission shop where I can get this fixed for cheaper In HOUSTON? Or is there a diff route I can go with? Anyone willing to make some money for this fix?
I plan on keeping this car for as long as I can keep it running. Don’t need a new car payment. So deff want to do it right

This year has been horrible, father gone, nephew ( more like lil brother) was killed last week, pressure from wifey to buy first home now that our little one is getting bigger.. feels like **** just piling up on me.
Any help would be highly appreciated.

Hey there, sorry about your situation right now and for your loss, life can be a tragedy sometimes. What problems are you having? Are you throwing any codes? How is your car operating at the moment?

to answer your question about any other shops that can do this; they all are charging roughly the same price.A new vavle body alone is about 1300-1500 plus fluids gasket you’re looking about 1600-1700 in parts. You’ll have to just call around and get quotes from everywhere. Gary’s Transmission in Katy knows how to do it but he too quoted me 3200. Maybe he will work with you.

Well southwest quoted me $3k. Seems like that’s prob the avg anywhere..

I did get the code p0720. Same issues as everyone. Car doesn’t get out of 2nd gear, sometimes not even out of first.. managed to take to trans shop where they diagnosed it and came up with needed new valve body or speed sensors but after they read the infiniti tsb they said they would do the valve body replacement.. other than that car runs good.. first issue car has given me..
