I just purchased a 2016 redsport with no Navi and id like to know what needs to be changed to run a navigation. Is it a just a computer ? Is it the whole screen unit ? Already called multiple dealers and they can’t seem to give me a straight forward answer

If all you truly want is nav, Unavi has a solution. But it is pricey and all it does is give you nav. Ironically, their Car Play and Android Auto solution is nearly half the price and will give you access to nav and so much more. Consider getting one of the CP or AA upgrades. Unavi is not the only player in town so shop around and do research before you purchase. Good luck.

I don't think attempting to install an OEM navigation system is a cost-effective idea. You're better off adding an aftermarket system as ptatohed mentioned. Even assuming a compatible wiring harness, you would need a NAVI control unit, GPS antenna module, an external data input box with an SD card slot, a HERE navigation map SD card (which aren't being updated anymore) and maybe more as those are just off the top of my head. You'll also need to have the DCU reconfigured with a CONSULT tool.

Cost affective and by far not the best system compared to Waze and others...

Its never cost effective to add Navi option to a vehicle that doesnt have it equipped. Guaranteed will be over $3K with the price of all the OEM units needed. Aftermarket solution is your best bet. Unless you go the junk yard route but even then, still gotta get it installed and programmed.

My RS also doesn't have Navigation, which at first was a little disappointed. At first thought about adding it just to have it, but between the price and effort (for a so-so setup) it wasn't worth it to me. Besides, I don't really use them anyway other than reference...mainly for an ETA on a long trip or something like that. Thankfully have a good sense of direction and typically will just look at a map before venturing out to an unknown location, if needed.

I'm just gonna throw this out there...I have factory Nav in my 2018 Red Sport and it's horrid. Save money and go aftermarket. Not a day goes by that I wish it didn't have it and I could have put an aftermarket system in. Just my thoughts.
It's slow, and was out of date when new. I've owned 4 Infinitis from 2013 to 2108 and they have the worst navigation systems I've ever used.

One would think that Infiniti would have come up with something better by the year 2108. Does that Infiniti run on a Mr. Fusion like the DeLorean in Back to the Future? It must have a flux capacitor also if you brought it back to this year. 😁

While the OEM navigation is pretty much trash, at least it’s not a subscription. Looking at you GM!!! I can’t stand that my wife’s trucks have navigation that we can’t even use because we won’t subscribe to on-star!

Aftermarket is much cheaper, the Lexus IS I have now, didn't have nav, so I picked up a Tesla style system for under $500.

I’ve always wondered why people want to use their car’s Navi when Waze is soooooooo much better than any OEM Navi system. If you don’t have Apple CarPlay or Android’s version of it in your car, you still have your phone!! Get a great cell phone mount for the vent (Andobil makes the best ones in my experience) and you’re done! Please let me know whether or not you’ve thought of going this route.

The biggest issue for me is not being able to listen to the stereo if I'm using my phone. It's really nice to have the stereo blasting and then have the Navi turn down the volume and chime in and tell me when a turn is coming up.

I don't have an unlimited plan on my phone, but wouldn't think navigation if used would take up all that much data?

It's kind of funny because my phone has like 12GB or RAM and nice video and all that (rivals a laptop, really) yet don't care to use it for much more than texting, phone (gasp) and some internet when away from the computer. Mostly WiFi though. Not too interested in apps in general, but do have a couple I use. Part of the allure of this particular unit for me was the ability to draw with its pen and also got a superblowout deal on it ~xmas 2020. Was happy with my S5, only the stupid usb port got messed up. Daughterboard was cheap, as were the easily replaceable batteries, etc. just didn't want to mess with it. Only reason I have this one.

Anyhow, point was that the hardware is more than capable but I would not be interested in using it for bluetooth (other than calls) or it needing to "run" while I drive. It goes in my pocket and stays there for the most part.

It is a nice option for most folks though to be able to so easily use and implement that technology of the pocket computers first, phone second appliance, haha.

Lots of work for a shitty nav system that is now not being updated. I would get a Carplay unit. My DCU patch that I am working on isn't compatible with non-nav systems.
