MAPerformance or AMS catted downs?

We all know AMS and where to find those. In my research i discovered MAPerformance. Talking to the guy on the phone, these are nearly $1000 cheaper (if I call Blake back...ha) and have a lifetime warranty.

It seems to me, to some degree, 3" catted downs are 3" catted downs...a pipe is a pipe us a pipe. (The cheaper version are only $850! With a lesser CC only able to handle 1000hp and out of stock.)

What is your experience? What do you guys think?

I actually like the smooth transition 3" --> 2.5" as opposed to the abrupt AMS adapter. Unless you are going to run with 3" exhaust all the way back, I see no need for the AMSs over these.

I am....going to run 3" from motor to tailpipe.

Im not ever going to 900 hp (i dont think, maybe when i run out of 'regular upgrades' to buy....Ecutek and LSD left.) But...i do want to squeeze every bit of hp (that extra 15hp is important to me at 500 just like it is to a racer at 1000.) Some of my choices are likely, an overbuild/'more than I'll ever need.'.. but it keeps options open, with no do overs. I'll be putting on 3" turbo exhaust at the same time. No reason to add a pinch point.

As always, thanks for the info gents.

The engine block and then the transmission are the limiting factors.

Make sure you upgrade the driveshaft. My OEM driveshaft was already splattering CV Joint grease into the tunnel when I changed-out to the Inland Empire 1-piece Aluminum driveshaft, and that was around 25k miles on my Q.

as stated earlier, one is good to 500hp, the other is good to 850hp each. MAP actually sells both as an option. the lesser are $875 and the high hp handling versions are $1250.

The lesser version is out of stock, direct from company, the more expensive are, of course, on the shelf ready to ship, as of two days ago.

both downpipes are the same diameter at the turbo. the AMS version just looks bigger because the transition is super short at the turbo. the MAP full cat just necks down before the connector to mate to 2.5" exhaust systems without an adapter. youll have a hard time finding an adapter that fits and also transitions as well as the MAP downpipe.

MAP downpipes use GESI HO cats, good to 500hp per cat and the AMS downpipes use GESI UHO cats that're good to 850hp. these cats are most of the price of these downpipes. the HOs are like $550 each and the UHOs are around $650 each, thats consumer price though.

if you dont plan on running aftermarket frame turbos, the MAP downpipes will be just fine.

MAPerformance tapers down at both ends of the down pipes, which WILL reduce flow. Essentially they’ll perform like 2.5” catted DPs, while taking up the room of 3” catted DPs. Look at the AMS ones next to the MAP ones and you’ll see the difference. Because of that, I personally would spend the extra for AMS if you want maximum performance (which means 3” cat back too)

Having said that, if you don’t need every last pony the engine can provide (and we are talking a small amount here like maybe 15HP) but do want more than you’ve got now, the MAPs are still a HUGE improvement over stock.

Well f##k! Thought i found a deal. You get what you pay for, i suppose. Lifetime guarantee and half the price. There had to be a catch. Thanks
