Any mathematicians here? I just did a quick calculation and I don't like where it's headed...

In 2022, there were approximately 290 million vehicles in the US.
In 2022, there were approximately 1 million vehicle thefts in the US.
So, as an oversimplification, your odds might be 1 in 290 that your car would be stolen.

Now if a Q50 is 525x more likely to be stolen than the average car, take 290 divided by 5.25 and you get 55.

I literally joked to myself the odds better not be 1 in 50. And my first calculation came up with 1 in 55

The RX350 is one the most stolen here also, if I do get one , it will be an older one, they don't get much for an older one, so I may be safe.:)

Overall, what are the odds of a Q50 being stolen? Like 1 in 100 or 1 in 1000?

If this is correct (This is the most stolen luxury car in America (motorbiscuit.com) ) kind of shocked to read a Q50 is 525x more likely to be stolen than an average car

And that a BMW 3 series is the least stolen ??

I don't get it. I would have thought the BMW would be targeted far more for badge recognition and some out of sight parts prices...
“Car and Driver describes the ride as jittery, and appears to be unpredictable if traveling in any trajectory other than a straight line.“ - huh? I never felt the car was “jittery” (though I’m not 100% sure what they mean by that!) nor would I call it “unpredictable“.

You and me both. But I assume they tested it with run flats on.

I don't get the car and driver quote either -- I find my Q50 extremely tight and precise which is why I bought it.

So far I've only driven on pavement, so I don't know if driving on loose gravel, ice, or snow would be different in terms of not feeling the resistance/slip of the tires on the wheel when you have DAS. But so far I love it on pavement, and no idea what jittery would mean ... it seems like both a smooth and precise ride to me.

I've driven a non-DAS Q50 on the highway and noticed that it was extremely jittery, as has been described throughout this post. It was a loaner with relatively low mileage, but I was not a fan. Not sure if it was a tire thing or not. Perhaps some quality Michelins would fix the issue, but the level of correction required made my drive anything but relaxing. I felt like close attention to the tracking of the car was required at all times and I never felt like I could take my attention off of making continuous minor adjustments to steering. It was kind of surprising.

Just reading an article on the CAA magazine, and the Q50 is still a safe car to own in Ontario Canada. Not up there on top.

It had to be the tires. I don't have DAS, and the only road complaint was tram lining when I had run flats. Since getting decent tires, my car has been smooth and comfortable. I will say, since I've had it on track and done auto X, it IS heavy and it doesn't like to rotate. The sway bars and coil overs have helped a LOT, and stickier tires would help even more. Aside from that if you corner properly, and I rarely do, the car will absolutely do what you want it to despite it's heft.

This is why I don't take car reviews at face value.

The Anti Theft Map would be dope if you could control it from your Cruse Control Toggle. On Board map switching is/was a thing with EcuTek. Only those that know about it would know how to use it. High doubt the thief's would have time to trouble shoot or remember.
What happens when you don't have your phone with you? Yes, this happens for me as I often leave it at home. Only really use it for the phone and text anyway, even though it's basically a little pocket-sized computer that rivals/surpasses laptops in speed and RAM. In other words, a waste but hey got a blowout deal, lol.
The antitheft is like any other map and can be engaged/disengaged via the cruise control switch.

Yeah I would think so...but what gives me pause is that my RS had runflats and it never has felt like that even with those awful tires. I dunno...got me swinging. 🤷‍♂️

Indeed. They never mention that perhaps a quality tire could solve the problem entirely. There's no possible way that it could be attributed to the cheapest tire the manufacturer got at the lowest bid.

Back to the thread title.

Might be time to start using a Faraday bag for your key fob when traveling into areas known for car thefts, essentially the closer you get to the country's tallest buildings.

The local Police, is handling them out for free, believe it or not there are more cars stolen in Canada then U.S. Watching the news last night, the Port of Montreal Quebec, is the most lax port, containers are not inspected, there are many Canadian cars found in West Africa.

So that's why we get so many posts from Nigeria. And here I thought they were all spammers.

Do you use it?

I put both sets of keys, my and my wife's, the spare sets I have in a steel box. And the garage door opener, I put in the lock position every night. In case they try to scan the opener.

One car still had the ownership in it, and the CBC newscaster actually called him and showed him were his car was.

It's too bad there isn't a simple off button on the key fob to turn off the RFID at night.

I'm going to order one of these faraday key fob bags from amazon, but it seems kind of clumsy to have to carry a bag to put my key in, in a hotel for example. I guess it's the easiest option.

Or remove the fob battery.
