yup they’re still the normal colors as it’s a led on a circuit board

Is there a clear lens or are these just tails with the red lenses removed? It looks like the latter since I can't see any glare like I would expect if there were a lens.

I have a set of clear tails being made at the moment for my '14, hope to have them in a few months. They'll look a little more like traditional clear tails since the housings are chrome, part of the reason I didn't do the 18+ rear bumper conversion.

Here's what the 18+ tails look like with the lens removed before removing the red bits for anyone wondering:

I'm not even sure how what category this goes in. Classsy rice? It looks kinda cool but still rice. And because its on a black car, it just stands out more rice. Might look a passable eh on a red car. But still clear tails belong on 1998 Honda Civics but cool unique mod for being the first so kudos to you. Clean looking car otherwise, esp with the Z wheels.

 

I think it looks cool but it becomes rice without any lenses. Slightly smoked clear lens would look very clean. But I agree this execution is a very.. interesting way of doing things, especially with exposed LEDs.

Additionally, he is not the first to do this.

When told it's not legal, the response is it is legal because I've never been pulled over for it. That doesn't make it legal, it just means you haven't been held accountable for it yet.

When told that the environmental integrity may be compromised, the response is that OP just removes them when it rains. What?

 

they would not be classified illegal because they still have red brake lights when braking..... The integrity of the lights when it rains is compromised as we 2018+ have LED chips instead of bulbs therefore when it rains i do it for the sake of not damaging the chip.... The lights have their normal colors when doing traditional things such as turning (orange) braking (red).

Side markers MUST be amber, for all those white out side marker folks.
D) People can do what they want, but it doesn't make it legal.

i think this guy but my brake light is red when i press on it and it never had any amber side markers other than when i put my turn signal.. anyway i like this guy

OP, you're half way to a great mod. Finish it off by making a form from the oem housing and then using acrylic or lexan to form the shape in an oven. If using lexan, pre bake it for a while or it'll bubble up from trapped moisture.

It might take a few tries but when it works, you'd have a truly awesome set of taillights. There are YouTube tutorials on how to bend acrylic. If you're patient enough, you might even get away with using a heat gun.

my friend and i are going to try with resin and molds… we’re hoping it would work but we’ll see how it works out

 

LOL reading this first thing in the morning.....hahahhah great entertainment. I laugh more and more everytime I think about these taillights and OPs response to everyone. He posted up thinking he'd great props and praise but nope, and if you disagree your old hahahhaah.

nah, i wanna see then completely finished. i think they look great without the red cover but they need something to protect them. its almost like an unfinished mod, there is potential.

you dont buy them, you go to the nearest trailer park and look for the person with the least amount of teeth to carefully pry the oem lenses off.

Convincing yourself that someone is jealous when they tell you your project looks incomplete is both ignorant and incompatibly with reality.

Having said that; your car, build it however you want, including half-assed if you so choose. I won't lose sleep, and no, I'm certainly not jealous.

This has the potential to be a very cool mod. It just needs to be finished.
