I'm a little confused about the ambient lighting. I just purchased a 2018 Q50 AWD Sport with just about every package available except for ProActive package. The sensory package, which I have, includes "enhanced ambient lighting". The cup holder and door handles light up, but there is no light coming from the foot wells. When I was driving a loaner car while I was waiting for my new car, the footwells lit up so I figured something was wrong. I took my car into the Infiniti dealer yesterday and they said there were no light bulbs in the the footwells. They put the bulbs in and said everything was fine. So, last night I decided to check it out and there was still no light in the footwells but a light does come on in the footwell area when I open the car door. The color of the light that comes on is similar to the overhead interior lights ... not the same type of light that is coming from the cup holder and door handles. Aren't the footwells supposed to light up automatically like the cup holder and door handles or is there some sort of switch I need to turn on? Or, is the footwell lights considered radiant lights and, therefore, I actually don't have them?
Nope. "Enhanced Ambient Lighting" is not the same as the add-on ambient lighting. It just means the 2018s have better interior lighting than the previous models. (Cupholder and handles)

I had the interior ambient lighting installed in my Q50 and just realized that the footwell lights stay on even during the day. I tried to turn the headlight stalk position to OFF and they still stay on. Can someone with the ambient lighting verify if this is the case with your car too? If not, I'll have to bring this up to the dealer next time I go in.

Not sure where the dealer put the on/off switch for your dealer installed lighting. My 2017 ambient lighting was a factory option already installed in the car. The push button switch is located inside the center console storage compartment on the forward wall under the lid latch. It can be difficult to see. You can turn on/off and dim/brighten the ambient lighting via this switch and only this switch. You cannot turn off just the footwell bulbs. Everything is either on or off, dimmed or bright. They stay on regardless of headlights on or off, day or night unless you turn them off with the switch in the console storage compartment. Hope this helps.

Thank you that definitely helps! Sounds like my dealer did it right then. I do have the switch in the center console compartment that allows me to the lights on/off and dim. I just wasn?t sure if they?re always supposed to be on. Thanks again.

Hey, i figured i'd update his thread to share my experience with installing my own ambient lighting that I am able to turn it on and off and dim it with the interior light level switch. I simply used a fuse piggy back from the interior light fuse (it's the bottom fuse closest to the fire wall - a 5A fuse) in the drivers foot well. Ran the wires under paneling and the door jam and then found existing slits in the carpet where needed. I have 1 foot led strips lighting each foot well and i've ordered some EL wire (as suggested by another user) and see if i can tastefully integrate it in the rear. I put the on/off switch under steering wheel area where i can reach it easily but it out of sight. All the light strips are placed so you can't see them directly.

I was also able to keep the very tiny white LED that i believe is removed with the factory system and replace it with a much brighter LED strip - but note that some of the interior lighting works off of 3v...so you need 3v led's... (this is seperate, and works just like the factory foot well lighting does that is standard)

I wish i had pics but it's fairly straight forward...the hardest part (and i do mean it took me about 6 hours over 3 separate days) was finding out where to pull the power from, and then the relatively simple method of using the 'add-a-fuse' or fuse piggy back which didn't occur to me straight away...

Hello again everyone!

I was wondering if anyone has a Q50 with interior ambient lighting?

Also, how does it look in the evening and what color is the lighting?

Lastly, do you think it would be easy to replace with a different colored light?

Still waiting on my black q50 hybrid sport!
I replaced with blue on my 2019 q50. You can replace doom lights with bulbs. I’m trying to get help looking to replace those. The blue I bought at advance 2 bulbs 19.99. The trunk , the upper back and door are all 194B. I still have to figure out how to do the dome blue. Black interior.

Question. My footwell lights won't stay on. They come on/off with the door. Other lights (cup holder and door panels) stays on. I believe car came with all these option installed already however, i can't find the swtich you are talking about. Also, i would like to find out if I can somehow make the footwell lights stay on..

I have to ask, why?

If i have a feature/option installed in my car, i would want to be able to turn that feature on/off per my liking. In other words I should have atleast minimal control.

Why does Audi have footwell light that you can control? Plus the default setting is set to keep them on all the time..

I was only curious as to why you want more lights on in the cabin at night. I prefer as little illumination as possible to maintain the best night vision. To each their own.

Good for Audi.

I think we worked this out in the other thread. To me the lit footwells is a "welcoming" nicety. Similar to puddle lights. Meaning, it's there to "welcome" you but then turn off once you are situated. That's my perspective. The cupholders staying lit the whole time (with headlights on) makes sense because it's functional.

I'll have to check my Audi. I know I have factory footwell lighting but I don't know if it stays lit and I don't know what control I have over the lights.
