Hello, I have a 2019 q50 red sport! I was going to see if I could get any suggestions on some parts I am considering getting for my car. I’m looking for performance mods. I’m not too familiar with turbo Nissans (infinity’s). I would say I am pretty mechanically inclined though and just need some help with gaging what is going to help with power and what will make it worse.
  1. Blow off valves: I want blow off valves! Some for a decent price maybe like the zl1 blow off valves from zl1.com.
  2. Turbo cold air intakes: I have heard that some intakes can lower the horsepower. I have seen some that say they add some power but don’t know what to believe. I would say it would be great to get and would help but maybe intakes on turbo engines are less useful. And help with this would be great.
  3. Heat exchanger: Im going to need an upgraded heat exchanger and needed to know if anyone knows of a cheap one that will help with temps a substantial amount.
  4. Cat/ muffler/ resonator delete: I am very lost on what to do about a delete! Should I get a aftermarket y pipe and leave it at that? Should I get a rear axle back exhaust? Should I take off the resonator? If it will not help the power but also won’t hurt it then that would be fine since it would sound better. If it makes the power less and makes it sound better that isn’t worth it though! I have heard that deleting the rear muffler has caused some low end loss of power. So I was going to see if just putting a new y pipe would help with sound and also let it keep the power. Very confused about this problem! If you only answer one question make it this one
  5. Soho tune: I am planning on having soho tune my car just was going to see if y’all thought a tune would be 100% necessary or not.
  6. Thanks! Anything helps!

Welcome to the forum - lots of info available via search. My summary opinion below...

Skip 1 and 2 - you can add them at the end of your build if you are dead set on them, but it is likely neither will add performance to your tune (maybe the intake if you are really pushing high power from the tune and exhaust mods.

Most recommend replacing LDP/Cats back with wider piping. Some recommend upper cats as well, but it brings greater risk of emissions issues.

Yes a tune is necessary to get the most out of your car, especially when you are starting with an RS.

Blow off valves are good for sound but you will not get much love for them on here, I personally really like them but I went with HKS, the Z1 ones sound too subtle IMO and the HKS ones allow for different inserts for different sounds. The insert that comes with the kit are the tri-fin/golds, this gives a nice squeak sound. The intakes will purely be for sound as well, your stock ones are great. The heat exchanger is a must have, the heat soak on these cars sucks, dont let the extra water pump fool you into thinking the RS doesnt experience this issue. In regards to exhaust, go with a cat-back and LDPs from a trusted manufacture online, again IMO, the sound quality will be much better and you want the larger pipes to get rid of those exhaust gasses as quick as possible. Go with 2.5, no need for 3 inch. In regards to a tune, if you are concerned for warranty then get a JB4 instead, piggy back system that doesn't leave traces and helps push more boost out of those tiny turbos. This site is perfect for learning about this platform and safe mods/how to mod. The SEARCH button is your friend as well as Youtube when it comes to wanting to hear sounds for different mods

skip BOVs, theyre not needed for this platform in stock configuration and can sometimes make things difficult to tune. plus, most people dont install then correctly/securely and they loosen over time creating additional problems. they are a waste of money for this platform in stock config.

intakes will be one of the last things you want to do because the money per hp ratio is terrible. theres not a lot to be gained here. aFe drop ins or any similarly high flow replacements in the stock housings will suit you well until you do other things first.

literally ANY HX you chose is a huge upgrade over stock. it seriously doesnt matter which one you chose, they all work well.

an axle back is a waste of time. the oem downpipes are very restrictive. replace them with catted or uncatted lowers, your choice is dictated by your states inspection laws. a Y pipe will become a restriction eventually as they all have a 3" merge. asking nearly 500bhp to go through a single tube is dumb. the systems that use a y pipe as a merge arent as bad. ideally, you want two 2.5" (or 3") pipes to merge and then split in a true X shape. a true 3" exhaust is going to be very loud as raspy but offer the least restriction. a 2.5" exhaust will be fine for most people but it does start to be an issue over 450rwhp, specifically at higher rpm levels. you wont give up a LOT of power but it will become more of an issue the more power you make. a good compromise is 3" lower downpipes mated to a dual 2.5" exhaust with a true X (not a crappy Y pipe with 3" exit) and then whatever mufflers/resonators you want.

a tune is going to be where you see you biggest gains. its not essential for the above mods but youll get SUBSTANTIAL gains from a tune.

Nah...flame map with a spark plug in the exhaust pipe.

The first mods you should be worried about with this car are the safety improvements: synthetic blinker fluid, and a good blind spot remover.

Once you get those done, the best way you can get this thing to infinity and beyond is to upgrade the icemaker on your fridge to keep up with the demands of a good cold air intake.

I was hiding in the bushes with binoculars watching you write it as to not get involved. Rest assured I was cheering you on throughout
the entire process. ;)
